My fiance has been in Ulster for about one month now. He should be transferred anytime now. He heard about a job program through Ulster, where he can stay there permanently for about couple months to a year to even 4 years. He doesn't want the 4 years but would like to stay for acouple of months to be closer to home for now. He said there is an application but doesn't know if he should? Do you think it is a good idea? Does anyone have any infos in this matter? And where will he be staying if his application gets approved? Thank you for any infos:)

program-basically guys that work at Ulster and stay there to assist in running the Reception parts of the prison. He should not count on being able to transfer if he does not like it. Also, I think you have to be medium status (not 100% sure). Surprised there would be openings as many guys are trying to get closer to the City.

Another note on the Cadre program. He has to apply for the program and Ulster is not the only facility that has the Cadre program. This was a major deterent for my husband because if accepted he could be transferred to any of the Cadre facilities... Downstate, Upstate... I think Wende/maybe?

So be careful.

oh, I see... If he does get accepted, it might not be at Ulster but can be transferred to another facility. Should let him know. The Co there told him about the program but didn't mention that LITTLE fact. I think he already send in the application.:shake: Hope this doesn't backfire on us:( . Thanks for the info... Hope things work out......

How Does This Cadre Program Work? Is There A Minimum Amount Of Timeof Incarceration?
Can He Be Max Status And Long Termed Sentenced?

In Ulster they have to be medium status. Maybe in Downstate they can be max status.

The Cadre program is a program where the inmates stay at reception as "regular inmates" meaning they are not there just for reception - they "live" there. The thing about that is that they don't offer any programs (like trades, school, etc.) so they will have to do their time until parole. If they are eligible for CASAT or anything like that, they can't get the requirements in. (I only know about CASAT because that's what me and my husband are dealing with but it applies to other programs). For example, to get CASAT you need to successfully complete 6 months in a trade program, obtain your GED, or some other stuff (don't remember).

The plus side with Cadre is that they have trailer visits if you are family and/or married and if you stay at Ulster, you are close to home. :)
