I was sentenced 4/17/06 to 30 months at Carswell FMC-Camp for mail fraud. My judge was gracious enough to allow me 7 months to have my baby before having to self surrender on November. I had my baby 4 weeks PREMATURE, but all I can think about is Novemebr 8th. Can someone tell me about this facility? What is it like? From what I understand, it's (Federal prison) way different (better) than a state or county jail, so that's good news.

Unfortunately, I am leaving behind ,y husband of 2 years and 2 small children-one 16 months and the other a newborn. I am also leaving behind a 14 year old step son that also lives with us. This is very hard. My husband is being strong, but I know this is killing him as much as it is hurting me.

Anyway, back to my questions...What are the living quarters/cells like at Carswell? What programs are offered at Carswell? What am I allowed to bring with me on my self surrender date? I have to surrender by 2pm. What is the food like? I just want to know all I can know before I arrive.

This will also help with providing my family with information to reduce thier worry.

Thanks in advance,
KWMurphyTX

Kw, I am so sorry to hear your news. There is a site on PTO that deals with Federal Prisons. Close to the bottom of your page where it says Forum Jump -- click on the arrow that is pointing down. It will drop a menu down that lists all the different areas on prison talk. Find the federal prison area and click on it. There should be information there to help you. This site deals more with TDC prison issues BUT there is help for you. I pray that everything goes well for you and your family. I will pray for you as I pray for the whole PTO family. Good Luck and God Bless! Katy

KWMurphyTX I am sorry I don't have the answers to your questions.

But I have moved your post to our Federal forum where some of our Federal members can answer your questions for you.

Hi there,

I'm getting ready to surrender to Carswell as well. Right now my date is 10/30 but I am hoping for an extension of only a couple of weeks. I want to get this started as the sooner it starts the sooner its over. I don't have a little baby but I do have a 21 year old daughter who is my baby that I miss already. Is your family close to Carswell? We live in Alaska and aren't the richest people in the world so I won't see my daughter for 2 1/2 - 3 years. I received a 36 month sentence and my crime is also white collar. I haven't even left yet and I already feel alone as I don't know anyone in TX! If you want to chat send me a PM and let me know. This site has been a Godsend and I have talked with so many wonderful people. Talk to you soon.

Hello again, well I received the additional 2 weeks so I will be there 5 days after you. I hope you and your family are well and just remember we WILL get through this. I will keep you and your family in my prayers. This site has really been a big help to me as I don't feel so all alone. Take care and God Bless

OMG! I can't imagine having to go off and leave my newborn. I am going to Bryan for 24 months on Nov. 13 and I can't stand the thought of leaving my grandkids, that is bad enough. My mom is going to Carswell for 44 months on Nov 13 also. I hope for the best for both of you. We are going to be only about (only, ha) 470 miles from home but geez!! My mother is STILL in denial but I guess that proverbial ostrich's head will be jerked out here soon enough, she got her letter today where to report. We were hoping to both go in to the same place but she is 70 years old and has some medical problems so it didn't work out. I sure hope your time goes by FAST!!:(

I surrender on Dec. 1. It sounds like there will be a few of us that will at least have somebody to look for when we get there. I'm 52 y.o. White collar crime, 18 months. Scared to death. I'm worried about getting enough exercise to keep my body and mind conditioned. Has anybody responded to you about the workout facilities or whether or not Carswell has a track? I feel so pathetic.

I'm 43 and reporting to FMC Carswell sometime in Feb or March. A white collar crime for which I got 8 months. I'll be sure to look for some of you. I'll be watching this thread because I also want to know more about Carswell.

There is a track and basketball courts as well. There is also a library. I have not heard my wife mention other outdoor activities. I know there are craft classes and you can get your GED there.

I was at Carswell for about 10 months. Its been a year since I left but I can maybe give you some information. You do not have to have a medical condition to be at the camp. Inside the fence there is woman that don't have medical conditions either. If you have anymore questions just ask!
