Hi all. I came across some info that leads me to believe an old freind has been sitting in Davis (or in the OKDOC) for the last 20 years or so. He looks to be up for review in 2005, maybe there is something I can do to help him. If not, maybe he would enjoy a letter at least.
This is a little different than most of your situations, as this is not a loved one, and I am only about 90% sure that this person is who I think he is.
I have is ODOC number, and would like to contact him. He is listed as being in Davis.
Since I am not family, how would I go about contacting him? Do I call the facility and find out? Can I somehow send an email? Are there any things to do special? Do I need to go through someone else?
Thanks for any help, even just directing me to various areas of the website is a bonus.

If you have his name and ODOC number and the address of the facility, then I think all you have to do is write to him.
If that's not the case, I'm sure someone who knows the Oklahoma rules will be along soon to let you know how to do it.

Hi my name is Sarah and I can help!! LOL First off have you been to the doc website and gotten all his information with you having his doc number maybe you have I am going to put the link to the DOC offender look up for OK you can search it and it will have a picture so you will know for sure if its him. The only way you can contact him is through mailing him a letter. The look up will give you the information on where to write. You do not have to be a loved one to write. Always putthere name and DOC # then the facility and address on every letter. Good uck on contacting your friend and if you have any more questions please fell free to post them or pm me. Sarah

Thanks for the fast response!
Sarah, that is where I got the ODOC#. No pic is available, but it wouldn't make a whole lot of difference, its been over 20 years since I last saw him. Actually 25.
The description matches, and some other info I came across seems like it must be who I think it is.
So I should address it like this?:
John Doe
ODOC# 123456
Davis Correctional Facility
Holdenville, OK 74848-9295
Thanks! If that is all I need to know, I can take it from there.

Well, I wrote the letter. Took a couple days, for obvious reasons. Still need to find a stamp and send it, but I'm already having second thoughts. Maybe I should get a PO box? It seems to me that the only reason to stay alive, in his case, might be to someday get free and seek vengeance. Who knows. Do I even want him to know where I and my family are? Is he a muslim now? Has he freaked mentally? Kind of silly on one hand, but then again I just don't know. I don't trust people anymore.

Would he be seeking vengence against you? If not I doubt you would have to worry. But if you are unsure then please take your time and decide because unfortunately he will not be going anywhere. The prison system does change a person but usually not as completely as you seem to fear. trust is hard as is the road of having a friend or loved one in the prison system. Do what feels right in your heart and make sure you are ready to deal with this situation. I mayself found and contacted my friend I havdn't seen in 11 years while he was in ODOC custody and we are now a year down the road and engaged to be married when I set the date. I myself am tickled that I took the chance and wrote but I know I had fears when starting out too. what would he be like how has he changed all that stuff.
