I am looking for other people who have attemped being self employed when they got out of prison. My BF is getting out and insists on trying to make it at his own business, which is a car stereo & security company. He attempted this the last time he was released and it was just too much pressure on him; not to mention me, becuase I ended up supporting him most of the time because his business wasn't doing good.

I'm trying to talk him into getting a full time job first and just doing his business on the side. Later, after he gets more clients, he can switch to doing it full time.

Has anyone else out there attempted going straight into self employment? Did it work out or not? And don't the parole officers generally try to discourage this sort of thing because there is such a high rate of failure?
