IS there a person you can call to help put youre name on the inmates phone list besides the coucel at the prison?

Not sure if I can help, since Canadian rules differ so greatly from American ones.

Up here the inmate themselves request who gets onto his phone and/or visitor's list. (Of course then they check out who you are, do you have a criminal record etc.) This is to prevent weirdos with a sick interest in killers from harassing the inmates.

I have also always gone out of my way to find and CULTIVATE friends on the staff, who were civilians from the outside. These include the Chaplains, Elizabeth Fry Society (for female inmates) John Howard Society (for males), believe it or not the MENNONITE Church (who have a central religious belief about visiting those in prison!)

I also am ALWAYS anxious to quietly thank individual guards who show the smallest whiff of humanity. I even write letters to them! Sometimes they will help...

AND I have OFTEN written directly to wardens. It rarely works, but it has worked often enough that I never rule out the possibility.

Any of these people might be helpful for ANY problem you are having.

ok iam tring to have my husband call me i have done everything i can think of.

How long did it take the last time? I know it's aggravating. I hope things work for you soon. I know the wait is horrible. I've been through it myself.

WOW that is a long time. Billy always had my number on it within a few days. :argh I feel for you!! I know your frustration!!!

SORRY FOR WHAT YOU ARE GOING THROUGH. I THINK THE MOST I HAVE HAD TO WAIT ON A CALL WAS A WEEK. I HOPE YOU GET THINGS WORKED OUT REAL SOON AND HE IS ABLE TO CALL.

Tina, wish I could help you out. I believe that it's up to the inmate on the phone list issue. Can't he just add you on his?

The Alabama System required the inmate make his/her list. The list was processed within one week. Most times the list was processed within two days when it was duplicated from another facility tranfer. You can make an emergency call to an inmate when you feel he/she may be in harm due to lack of communication. When a family member would call me with this type situation, I would call the inmate to my office and dial the number for him/her to make a collect call to the party. I would limit the call to five minutes and also record the calling parties call. The Alabama prisoner did not have a phone list only a visiting and correspondence list. When a prisoner arrived at our facility, we would issue him up to eight free letter envelopes for notifying his correspondence people. Tina, I'm late reading this post, but I'm glad to hear that he got through...it took Vic three weeks, before I heard from him, so I know how the wait feels!
