So, it's official, I'm going to visit my boyfriend next weekend and I have a couple of questions. I wanted to know if anyone who's visited has suggestions on what not to wear. I have something planned...a pair of jeans with a sweater and a camisole underneath with a pair of boots. I know at Rikers they didn't want you to wear more than one layer. Just wondering if anyone has had a problem getting into Ulster with like a tank on under a shirt or sweater.

I assume that like other facilities upstate that I've been too that there are lockers where you leave your cell and property when you go in for the visit, but just checking. Any idea how much the lockers cost?

Lastly, do you know if when carrying your money/change in to the visiting room does it have to be in a clear purse?

Thank you in advance.

more than one layer if it is visible-like a cardigan with a blouse underneath-they make you take off the cardigan--so don't chance it-because they will NOT let you in a camisole alone. There are lockers-they are a quarter-you get it back at the end of the visit. Please check on Friday before you go to make sure he has not been moved-if they are in Reception or Transit they are not there long.

Thank you Momma Ann, so much for that outfit. I'll find another top cause I'd hate to go all that way to be told something ignorant. And I'll definitely call on Friday to make sure he's there.

Thanks again.

BabyCuz, I always make it a rule to carry an extra shirt with me - "just in case". The one day I forgot my "just in case stuff" (because I had cleaned out the trunk of my car the day before)... the rookie officer told me that I could not wear the shirt I had on (now I have worn this shirt a few times in the past without incident). Anyways, I was pissed when I realized that I didn't have it and I had to the Family Dollar to go buy another shirt.

I just went to visit my fiance on the 7 of October:D and they were not that strict. But of course you do not want to take the chance. I think it depends on the officers that are checking. I saw this one lady with a tight jeans and a tight shirt that showed her belly ring with really high heels. :hmm: She got through. This other lady had a sweater with zippers too. Buts its better to be safe than sorry. I brough a black pouch with some money in them and they didn't seem to care. But just incase bring a clear bag like a ziplock. Make sure you bring singles and enough changes. The vending machines don't accept big bills. The visit was great. Much better than the other places like rikers.

Thank you for your responses. So I'm going to get a new shirt and bring a back up, just in case.
I have a couple of other questions...As far as food is concerned, I want to be sure, you can only eat what's in the machines, right? You can't bring anything with you to be eaten on the visit, right? (For some reason he thinks it may be possible.)
As someone in reception, he can't get magazines or a hair pick, can he?
I've seen it posted that all guys in reception can receive on visits is money and/or cigarettes. I just want to be double/triple sure. Besides he's asking me for things and I'm like "I don't think that's allowed".

Thanks in advance, yet again.

that is the rule there-he won't be there long. Then he can get stuff depending on where he goes. So it is machine food-get it as soon as you get in the room-they refill the machines during the visit-but get what you can when you get there.

Yes you should get the food as soon as you get there so you don't have to get the food while you're with him. You have to wait around 10 mins for them to send him in. We didn't know and by the time we got to the machine, there wasn't much food in them. The only bad part is waiting to use the microwave. We had to wait around 30 mins on line.:( Good luck and enjoy your time..You can also take pictures in there(they have a poloroid camera. 2 dollars a picture) and plays games.

I went to Ulster yesterday and everything went so smoothly. I took the advice that I received here (thank you all) and there were no problems. I see what you mean....those ladies do not play with the vending machines. I saw a couple of people with what looked like Thanksgiving proportions of food for just two people :D , but hey, to each his/her own.
The only complaint, which is minor, was that they took a while to process us, the CO said they had an issue with the computers in the early morning so there was a slow start. Other than that I enjoyed my time with my boyfriend. It was so much better than going to Rikers, which I knew it would be. I don't know what it is but the CO's are so much kinder and seem less stressed. I don't know how they treat the guys (my guy assures me it's better than in the city) but they treated everyone yesterday with R-E-S-P-E-C-T. And that's all that matters to me. :D
Thanks again everyone. I love this site!!!
