Does anyone know where I can get info on items that can be sent to federal prisons, rules, etc. I won't be able to visit much because its an 11 hour drive! Any info would be appreciated. The bop web site only gives visitation rules:(
Thanks

What you can send depends on the prison - but it's pretty much just letters, photos (in batches of about 20), hard cover books directly from the distributor (like amazon) some places let you send soft cover books (but they usually can't have more than 5 books at one time) and if they don't let you send them, you can have them shipped from a distributor. Otherwise - you really can't send anything. I've sent photos from books, things I've printed out on my printer. Best thing you can do is send money (there's a procedure for that on the bop.gov website) so the inmate can buy what they need from the commissary.

What about music, like CD's? Are they allowed to have a discman? Sorry if it is a dumb question...rather new at this as well.

No Patty they cannot have any audio materials. They may purchase a transistor radio in the commissary.

Thanks Susan. I guess I've lived behind the rose colored glasses for too long and really need to realize that prison dosen't allow anything simple as that. I so wanted to burn him a CD but will try for a dedication with the radio station he listens to instead.

You think the Feds would lighten up a little on what we could send to our loved ones on the inside. But allass, that's only wishfull thinking. Oh and welcome to the fed family of PTO...

A dedication on the local radio station is a wonderful idea! I hope you can make it happen, and that he hears it
