I wanted to know what happens when an inmate is released from Rikers? My man is getting out next Friday and I read somewhere online that the inmate is dropped off at Queens Plaza w/ a metro card between the hours of 2am and 6am. Does anyone know how true this is?

Well i have been on Riker when inmates are being released. They stand right by the intake building and wait for the City bus to take back acroos the bridge or to the subway.

Yep, that is how they do it and the City wants them to change the way they release them. The biggest concern is that they are releasing men who need medication and can't get it.
They just dump them off with a Metrocard and whatever property they have.

Thanks for the info!
I also have another question. He's supposed to be released on October 21st (Saturday), but he said they dont release the inmates on weekends. Will they make him wait until Monday or will they release him that Friday? I really want to meet him but we are unsure about the dates & times.

They are taken to Queens Plaza and dropped off there by a DOC bus. They aren't dumped at the entrance of Rikers over the bridge. I just picked up my brother-in-law the other day at 3am in Queens Plaza. There were about 35 men dropped off.

if a family is trying to make arrangements to meet the releasee, what sort of instruction would you offer them (where to wait, hotels, etc.etc.)

It depends. Some inmates get released right in front of the visit building and are given a metrocard. There is no way to determine how your loved one will be released. I used to see family members waiting in the visit house for inmates getting released on bail and stuff.

well i know that i had to pick up a loved one a while ago right the first stop once u pass the bride and parking lot...They had given him a metrocard and his brown bag belongings. that bus could take u pretty far.but b4 they get relaesed they ask u if any1 gonna pickthem up...they just let u off there MTA bus just any of us goin to visit. next time u goin back home crossing over the bridge check who is in the bus with u.u mite be surprised!well if they sentenced for a month or 2 then they get released like this and by 5-6 pm u can meet them.others whose been in for almost 1 yr then theyll drop u off btwn2-6am w/ doc bus.cause no mta buses running at that time.! i hope i helped
