My husband has been classed up to go to Alex City Honor Camp as minimum 2-in from Ventress. Does anyone know anything about this camp?
I've been looking for info for about a week, but no luck.
Anything will be helpful.........I Know Nothing about this place.
Thanks

Thank you very much. But. I'm still hanging out there looking for info about Alex City. (visits, phones, what you can bring, general condition of the institution). If no one has had anyone there or knows anything about it could I please get some direction to a website or anything. I'm sure everyone knows how difficult the waiting game is and how frustrating it is not to know anything about where a loved one is or where they are going from day to day. I've been on PTO in the last two weeks more than I have since I joined. Feeling a little dissapointed. No answers.

The Alexander City Work Release opened in September 1974 with a designed capacity for 48 community custody inmates. The facility expanded in 1976 and the capacity increased to 64 inmates. The Department originally leased a site from Russell Mill Corporation in Alex City until December 1987, when Russell donated adjacent property to the DOC. Construction of a new facility in June 1993, increased the capacity to 300 inmates.
The Center has an on-going Community Work Services which provides free inmate labor to the Tallapoosa County Commission. The inmates also participate in the community’s Adopt-A-Mile program.
The Center also has a full time Drug Treatment Counselor who coordinates AA and NA classes to assist inmates whom are recovering from substance abuse problems.
Religious services are provided weekly by various denominational volunteers.
The Center has achieved an excellent working relationship with Alex City employers and the community. Employment of work release participants typically has remained at 100%.
MYSTI, this is what I got off the ADOC web site about Alex City. I know that work release get passes. I think the start with 3 or 4hr passes and gradually work up to 72hr passes. As far as bringing things I know that you can take him clothes. You could call the facility and ask them about visits, I hope this helps...

Lee was in the alex city WR and it's not a bad place at all. They are (well were)pretty laid back. The visits go back by the first letter of the last name.I didn't really visit Lee while he was there cause we got together after he had been there long enough to be getting his passes. So I just waited until he went on passes to see him.And for the phone calls, well he got to call me from his job,his boss was cool and let him do that and more.I did go for one visit at the camp and it wasn't bad at all.But do warn your man about Mrs.Vines cause she will try to hang him any way she can.

i called Alex City today and you are allwoed to bring food to them on the day of visit and visits are every two weeks on Sunday from 8:00-12:00.they do have a commissary there so you can get drinks and chips exc. Once they have been sent there, they can call collect when they arrive and then a few days later, they will get use of the phones.they are also told when they get there if they are on work release status or if they stay in whites.if they are work release status, then you can bring them clothes but i am not sure of exactly what they can have.they are very nice there so call and ask any other questions you may have.
