SusanT 10-10-2006, 04:03 PM Just stick a magazine in a 9X12 envelope and send it. Regarding the newspaper articles. Sometimes they let them through and sometimes they don't. If you can make a copy of the article are ads so they aren't on newsprint it should not be a problem. People have used newsprint to introduce drugs into the facilities so they are watchful about it.
MandyMeMe 10-11-2006, 07:08 AM So we can send them magazines, i thought the publisher has to send them?
optimistic 10-11-2006, 08:07 AM At my guy's facility he can only receive magazine from the publisher. As far as the envelopes, I decorate them, send all colors, pretty much any size and we've never had any problems. You can always call his facility and ask for specifics for HIS facility. Every facility has their own interpretation of the rules...so I would call!
SusanT 10-11-2006, 09:43 AM Your inmate knows what others are receiving at mail call and is probably a better source of information than whoever happens to answer the phone when you call.
midlandbrown 10-11-2006, 04:32 PM At La Tuna any color of envelopes are fine and paper
Also you can mail magazines but when you go to the post office ask for book rates its alot cheaper
ShortBid 10-12-2006, 09:36 PM any color paper/envelope is fine
magazines: it is up to the warden at the facility as to whether or not he/she will allow magazines into the institution.
the only kinds of paper you can not send in are business type papers because inmates are not allowed to further a business on the street from behind the wall.....they can not even discuss it over the telephone or they will receive a shot for it if the officer catches it
Zelda50 10-13-2006, 02:45 AM You also can't put stickers on the envelope or paper or glitter or glue anything else on them (except the postage stamp of course). Each institution has its own rules about magazines. I either print newspaper articles from the internet or copy them onto regular paper because I've had clipped news articles returned to me as not allowed. Z.
Daisy1313 10-13-2006, 09:09 AM I used to send all different types of decorated envelopes and paper. The only thing that didnt get through was construction paper. And they dont always return your mail to you to let you know it wasn't received. Heck, they dont even get all their regular mail on some days.
I sent articles that i printed from the internet but he was not allowed to write on them and send them back to me. He got them back every time.
For magazines- go to mymagstore.com ...thats the only online store I found. Also, going to Barnes and Nobles- you just pick out the magazines and when you pay for them ask them to mail them for you. Where we were it was no more then 5 at a time. So I always picked out 10 magazines and asked the store to ship them on two seperate days.
meowmachine 10-17-2006, 07:09 AM Clips from newspapers are fine. I received many of those. That was a real treat to get news from home and to share the news clips from others who were from my area.
And, yes, you can use stationery. It's nice to receive a letter on pretty stationery. I think that your son might like that from his mom!

PoohBaby 01-24-2007, 07:14 PM wait, no construction paper? how does that work? i wanted to make a big card like one i received from him, and glue it together with construction paper. hmmmm, i gues that means no cardstock?
thought for the night: "HOLL-Y-WOOD, its only three syllables, its not that hard!"
Zelda50 01-24-2007, 07:57 PM I just had an article I had cut out from a magazine returned to me from Sheridan FCI. So it's not just newspaper articles I guess. It said because it was part of a magazine and magazine's have to be sent from the publisher, that he couldn't have it. What a bunch of balooey. Z.
