Reception center inmates are being told not to expect lock-down to end until after the new year. I'm not sure how long it's taking for everyone to transfer out of there, but of the two I've heard from it's been over 60 days already and no word.

What happened to cause this current lockdown anyway. My son went there around September 18th and they were already on lockdown.

Hi - my son is there. It took about four weeks to get mainlined. He is now on the "ranch" there. Does anyone know about the ranch at DVI?
Thanks!

My fiance is also at the Ranch at DVI...

The ranch is a dorm setting but is much more relaxed...it doesn't have towers or electric fences...they can work in the fields and the dairy there..as for a library they don't have one there it's across the streets at the main DVI faciltiy... the Ranch is for short timers...but does have a few guy there with a lot of time left...

I need the correct mailing address for mailing books to DVI. Amazon.com returned them saying there was a problem with the address. I know they don't want a PO Box so what is the address out there??????? I used the one in the information site that gave the address of DVI but that must be for the offices and not for mailing books. I am so disappointed he has waited for quite a while for a book and now he is not going to get it.

Hi Nancbee4,
Reception lockdown is supposedly in effect for Northern Hispanics and White inmates in various blocks, likely until after the new year. For Level I classified inmates, it looks like it's taking 6-10 weeks to get mainlined from reception.

PO BOX 600

You will need your loved one's CDC number and his block/cell number for mail to find him. Right now, reception center inmates can only receive writing packages, but no limit on the frequency that you can send them. I posted the writing package here today, or you can call 209-835-4141 ext 5670 to speak directly to the mailroom (weekdays).

What happened to cause this current lockdown anyway. My son went there around September 18th and they were already on lockdown.

The most recent lockdown occurred in response to a violent exchange between two inmates of different ethnicity. Cell searches that followed turned up numerous fabricated weapons. It occurred in the last weeks of August, 2006. It is expected that this lockdown will continue until the new year. It is a restrictive environment for the inmates, but I have been told that it is a much safer place for new-comers at this time.

does anyone know what units are on lockdown at the reception center, my husband is there and i want to go see him but its so hard to get a appointment there, i undersand that the visits at the reception center are by phone booth, is that right? they dont have family visits for the inmates that are married?

I am sure you can never have any family visits in reception. I have been told by my son, who is in reception, that IF he gets off lockdown and IF I do get approved the visit will be 1 hour behind glass. :(

what about during the holidays? are you able to visit? are you able to have contact visits while they are in reception for the holidays?

Nancbee4

No contact in reception. Once they are mainlined to another prison or mailined at DVI you can have contact visits.

Does anyone know if DVI is still on lockdown.... my nephew is there and has been there since mid December. We have only received a few letters from him and no visitation forms or phone calls. We have heard through other people that it is really bad in there right now :( . We still have no word of when he will go mainline....or where he will be when he does go mainline. We have heard that if he works in prison he gets a day taken off of his sentence....does this apply to time spent at reception too?? Sorry for all the questions we are just worried and concerned about him. Anyone who can help with all my questions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance :)

what you can do is call the 800 number. if you dont have it. i will give it to you. it is 1-800-374-8474. press number 1 then 4 then 3. it will be a recording and it will tell you what part of the prison is on lockdown and what is not.

do you happen to know what wing or hall he is in?
My husband is on East Hall. and they are not on lockdown. or you can call DVI direct and see if they can help you. Their number is 209/835/4141.

Good Luck Nor Cal...hope you get answers soon!
