View Full Version : Aggravated! Family visit not approved because of RVR
darnellkim 10-04-2006, 03:48 PM Hi! Everyone!
My husband is in Parchman, and were trying to get our family house approved, but the people in parchman are saying he has an RVR from winston county, but he dosent. So I talked to Lt. Steveson and she said that it has to be removed by the case manager at Winston County! Anyway I have to call her back in the morning! I have been on the phone with these people ALL morning tryin to get this straightened out! I will SOOOOOOOO glad when all of this is over! Anyway I just wanted to vent! Thanks 4 listening!
Sorry you are having so much trouble but you are dealing with the right person at Parchman. Lt. Stevenson is an awesome lady. You will always get the straight story from her. No beating around the bush or maybe's about it. She will do everything she can to help you. Good luck and let us know how it goes with the people in Winston County.
Jonathan 10-04-2006, 11:07 PM Amy is correct, Lt. Stevenson is very fair and will help you as much as possible.
I would suggest calling the warden at Winston county and getting him to handle the situation - alot of times that works better than going through a case manager - I would also let them know you have been trying to call quiet a bit.
darnellkim 10-08-2006, 11:44 AM well, we got everything straigtened out, and we got our approval date for Nov 20-24! im so happy everything is ok now! And I jusy got back this morning from visiting my husband at parchman, and I have NEVER seen anything like it! but it is what i signed on to when i married my husband, we will get through this 2gether!
You were there yesterday? I was there. Man there were a lot more people there than normal. I am used to seeing way less lined up waiting.
neptune08 10-10-2006, 10:21 PM Darnel, I'm curious...how will the family visit work, the one you're talking about for Nov. 24...? Thanks for any knowledge...
darnellkim 10-11-2006, 03:55 PM Well my husband has been the system RVRfree,so he was eleigible for the family houseing. I will get to stay with him for 5 days. They sent me a list of thimgs I can and can't have. But I can bring whatever kind of food I want. But, I do think you have to be in the system 1 year, to put in for it. I can't wait.
Mama_Kat 10-22-2006, 08:15 PM What are the requirements for family housing and what is it all about? I am not familiar with this at all.

The inmate must be "A" custody, in system and RVR free for 1 year. This is a program that allows immediate family to spend a weekend with their loved one periodically.
neptune08 10-26-2006, 10:02 AM What are some of the things you are/are not allowed to bring? Are children allowed as well? Oooo, I love details! LOL

Whoa whoa whoa miss lady. I am not ALL knowing like that....BUT I like to think I am. ;)
There are a lot of ifs ands and buts just like with anything else in the world of DOC. It is my understanding that any approved immediate family member is allowed to go.
You really have to take anything you need with you, but some things will not be allowed. Many electric conveiences that we use everyday are not allowed. I believe I was told at one time that you cannot take a hair dryer. Electric skillets, crock pots and the like aren't allowed either according to my information.
You will have to take things that you might not think about though, such as bed sheets, toilet paper and garbage bags. They will give you a list of the items that are not allowed when you are approved.
We were very close to being approved, but a hailstorm damaged the buildings around that time. Thinking it would be DOC as usual and take a long time to get the repairs done, I offered him a choice. He could take the money I intended to spend on the visit on his canteen or he could wait for the repairs to be done. He thought like me and took the money so I didn't get very far into the process, but I was lucky enough to have a friend that had been before who discussed it with me.
Mrs.Glamma 10-27-2006, 10:15 PM Hey girl, so good to see you here. You have always had the answers I needed so.... ;)
Have a wonderful weekend.
