So does anyone have experience with picking up property for an inmate on Rikers? I'm trying to set up a day to pick up my bf's stuff, but 311 says it's not in the system (meanwhile he filled out the paperwork on Sept 7th - the month's almost over!).

Any help is appreciated.

I know my brother had his stuff sent to me from the island but it did cost some money. I think you can call the facility and arrange for it to be sent or picked up. They even throw it out after a certain amount of time so you may want to move fast.

Has he already gone upstate? If so then you can call the facility and ask them. If not have him bring his stuff out when you go up for a visit. he can bring it out and when the visit is over you can just go an pick it up.

No he's still on Rikers, and the things he needs me to pick up are a pair of new sneakers and shower slippers that were taken from him when he went to GRVC from The Tombs. The sneakers are uptowns and the slippers are Nikes plus they have velcro, none of which are allowed. So, I'm working on scheduling an appointment to pick them up. I called 311 yesterday and today and a 212 # (can't remember it at the moment) but I was told that his property isn't in the system yet. The guy who schedules the appointments was actually nice and said it takes 2 to 3 weeks to be input to the system. Today made 2 weeks exactly so I'll call back next week and see what happens. I really don't understand why they didn't just give him the option to mail it home, it would have been so much simpler.
I didn't think I'd ever say it, but like I've read many others write, I can't wait til he goes up north. Things just seem to flow better (at least in my experiences). Ugh!

Did they take them from him on a search or when he first went to the facility? I feel on the upstate thing but if he's not sentenced it can take up to a year. It's difficult but be patient because when they go upstate they are further away and we wont get to see them as much.

Hi JaLove,

They confiscated the sneakers and shower shoes when he first arrived on Rikers at GRVC.
You're very right about wanting him to go north. I said it/wrote it because I was so frustrated. He gets sentenced on Thursday and will probably leave 1 1/2 weeks after that. You're right...it will be a helluva trek once he is sent up. I'm hoping it's not too far. I just came home from seeing him today, and it's been nice to see him as often as I have. I know I'm not really ready for him to go up, but the sooner he gets there the sooner it will be over.

I know exactly how you feel. Hopefully he won't go to far and you can see him often. I have no clue when my fiance is going upstate he nowhere near being sentenced.

I have to pick-up my fiance's wallet...
It's a real emergency 'cause if we don't have that we can access any evidence to help the lawyer!
I've called 311 and they are about as lost as I am.
The officers at Riker's told my fiance that his wallet was NOT transferred along with him and that it's still at the Tombs. I'm afraid that they'll throw it out come the end of the month :(
When I called the Tombs they say it has to be at Riker's...omg as usual with this system I have no clue what to do or where to start!
If anyone can give me any information or direction I would very very much appreciate it!
