Momma Ann 09-20-2006, 01:23 PM I would guess that the companies to which they owe money should be notified of their incarceration. See what they do from there. Possibly explore bankruptcy. PrincessTNY 09-20-2006, 01:26 PM My man and I informed all of his cards and student loan companies and they still didn't care. He even gave them 3rd party permission to talk to me and they weren't very helpful, but they did stop calling... jessesmp 09-20-2006, 01:29 PM Not to my knowledge can a inmate collect SSI or public assistance. They are resposible for there credit cards. They just need to write the company and tell them whats going on. It depends I am sure how long they will be in, as to what the CC Company will do. Can he get a job inside to help cover cost? I know in Arizona they can work. I hope all works out for you. tuttles 09-21-2006, 06:50 AM I sent letters to all my hubby's creditors with copies of their bills, (that were in his name only, if they are joint, you are on the hook for them.) Telling them that he was waiting sentencing with what the time may be, based on what the initial charges were, etc and explained that he has every intention of honoring his debt when he is capable. Had a few continue to send, bills, etc... I kept resending the letter, with current date, copy of the "latest" bill. Eventually they all gave up. It certainly will be on his credit report, but that's something we'll have to deal with. |
