Doc's Sis 09-21-2006, 07:12 AM Where is Milhaven?? In the States or Canada? In most states, the inmate has to begin the process and he will ask his case manager (or counselor) to send you the forms to fill out and return to the prison. So write to him and tell him to find out what must be done so you can visit him. LovinJus 09-21-2006, 07:47 AM If you want to visit him in reception I'm pretty sure you do not need a form. If you are trying to get ahead on visiting approval for when he gets pen placed by getting your visiting form now than I think the only way for you to get it now would be to go to the prison and pick one up. In reception I don't think he can send one out. However, if this is where he is going to be pen placed then he may be able to have access to a visiting form. If you are close to the prison, or any federal prison for that matter, you can just drive up to the front desk and ask for one. After you send in the form it takes usually around 4 weeks to get approved. Good luck! You can feel good in the knowledge, however, that our inmates appear to be getting a better "deal" if you will than our brothers in the States. Some of the sentences I'm seeing imposed south of the border are an absolute disgrace!!! In Michigan, for example, my buddy got a 25 year sentence for trafficking in cocaine when he was 17 years old. In Canada, even for murder, the longest sentence a youthful offender can get is 5 years, even for murder. Justin Umm, iknow that when i needed a form, my ex sent one to me, then i just filled it out and sent it back to the prison. Way faster to just go pick one up from the institution though. And Mr Justice/Justin... just about the last comment you made about youth offenders and the max sentence for murder...not so true. My ex commited murder as a youth offender, but still got a life sentence with no chance of parole for 25 years. It's already been 14 years.... LovinJus 10-03-2006, 09:10 AM But did they try him as an adult? Is he serving time in an adult facility? I think what MrJustice meant was a youth actually sentenced as a youth, serving timein a youth facility. Doesn't happen so much anymore. They seem to want to try every kid as an adult now. Sometimes it is warranted but other times not so much. Erin butterfly16 10-04-2006, 10:16 PM Your boyfriend will have to mail you the application form. You cannot visit him until you are approved. When you go for your first visit it is one behind glass and you talk on telephones. legionofmany 08-19-2007, 09:25 PM i found this information to be very helpful i didnt know the first visit would be behind glass i thought it was a full contact visit. robbreid 08-24-2007, 11:09 PM Milhaven is a Maximum Security Prison, as every inmate in reception is there to be classified, all inmates are considered 'Max'. However from an inmate point of view, it is a far better place than the pre-trial centre he came from, and no matter where your transferred, it improves for the inmate, and all prisons outside of reception have open visits. Usually inmates are allowed the first visit without an approval, but it is not a guarantee. He generally will be at Milhaven 90 days or less. Upon arrival at his 'Mother Institution', where he will be transferred too, you will have to apply all over again. While he is at Milhaven, have him send you another visitor application. As soon as he finds out which institution he will be transferred too, as they tell you 2 to 3 weeks before you leave, you can forward your application ahead of his transfer. shawnie79 08-27-2007, 06:57 PM I am sorry i have read a few comments you wrote about millhaven and I have a few questions myself if you dont mind me asking you. meems 10-07-2008, 08:03 PM You can also find many forms through the web site for Correctional Services Canada.
