View Full Version : 4th of July Visitation????
danielle 06-19-2002, 08:11 PM Here's the deal - as most of you know, Wayne is in Kilby Prison in Alabama. It's mainly a classification center and all male inmates go through Kilby and are usually sent other places pretty quick. Rarely does anybody spend more than a few weeks there, but because of parole hearing delays Wayne is still there. He's had to wait 90 days to have visitors and his 3 months were up the 14th of this month. He filled out his visitation list (I'm the only one on it!) and me getting approved shouldn't be a problem - he'll know within a week or so. His ONLY visiting day is the first Thursday of the month - which falls on July 4th. Do prisons have visiting on holidays like that? If so, it works out well for me - I have a 4 day weekend, but I don't want to get my hopes up either if I am not going to get to see him. I know all facilities are different, but how does it generally work? It's his only visiting day for the month so would they cancel it anyway? If I don't get to see him then, he should be transferred by the first Thursday of August and it'll be another waiting period before he can have visitors!
torrey 06-20-2002, 01:57 AM Are they going to close shop and send all the CO's home? I wouldn't think a holiday should matter. Life and work goes on there 24/7
aprilcat 06-20-2002, 06:13 AM i know in some states, they actually allow extra visits on federal holidays! give the prison a call and see, danielle. i bet you get to visit! ;)
sherri13 06-20-2002, 07:26 AM MY GUESS IS YOU CAN VISIT--I HAVE VISITED ON HOLIDAYS--BUT NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE WILEY WAYS OF THE DOC- CALL AND BE SURE!
DJohnson 06-20-2002, 07:52 AM I know in IL the guys can have visits on the holidays, in some cases the hours are extended a bit more because it's a holiday.
Danielle...like the others have told you call the prison to make sure he can get visits. I would also call the day before you go just to make for certain. Dealing w/the DOC is a day to day thing & 1 never knows what can happen.
Cameo 06-20-2002, 11:02 AM Hi Danielle
My guy is also in a classification center in Virginia. I wrote the assistant warden and I have permission for a 4th of July visit and 6th, I'm working on the 7th right now with the headquarters of correction in Richmond. I know here is Connecticut, if there is not enough staff on Holidays, they will cancel the visits, so definitly call ahead and ask to speak to the Warden if you have to. I'm having a 'special' visit because I'm driving 9 hours, that's why I trying so hard for the Sunday visit too!
Good Luck
Pam
BillnDenise 06-20-2002, 03:39 PM Billy's prison has holiday visits but they take away more visiting points for them.
danielle 06-20-2002, 05:16 PM I called today and they said the guy over visiting wasn't there, so call back tomorrow. Nobody I talked to seemed to know! Anyway, I'll let you know!
jdswifey02 06-20-2002, 05:47 PM Definitely keep us posted... DJ already filled you in on IL... so I don't have much more to add other than "I think they probably would..." :) I will be keeping my fingers crossed for ya!! :)
danielle 06-25-2002, 09:48 AM Seems the only person who knows is off and has been for several days. I've been calling since Thursday and he is still not in!! I'll keep you posted...if it works out, I could be throwing my arms around my Baby next week, but I am afraid to get my hopes up.
DJohnson 06-25-2002, 10:01 AM That seems a little "fishy" to me Danielle. I would think there would be someone else you could talk to about the visiting hours. I know when I first called to get the real times for visits (EJ told me a little different hours). The first CO that picked up the phone told me of the times.
Do you know if your state has a web site for the prison system there? If they do maybe check that & see what kind of info. you can find on there if any.
Oops...sorry just read the begining of your post AGAIN & noticed Wayne is in Alabama. Let me do some checking for you to see if there is a web site for the prison system there & find out the visitation hours & if there are any special visit hours for holidays for you.
Shortie 06-25-2002, 08:39 PM As far as I know they will allow the visits..
danielle 06-27-2002, 04:51 AM Finally! I talked to the man yesterday and he said that they should be having visitation that day, but the warden could cancel due to staffing problems but they would tell the inmates before-hand. Basically they are really understaffed. Anyway - He was so rude! He said that from now on, all of my information is to come from the inmate not from the staff - for me to ask whomever I have locked-up there. He didn't even get my name so he has no idea which inmate I was calling about. Jerk!!
CREAMYALMONDZ 06-27-2002, 06:37 AM Some states do allow it, they consider it a state holiday. That's how it is here in Virginia, you can have visits on state holidays. I am visiting with Steven for the 4th. I find that there are less people in visitation on holidays.
danielle 06-27-2002, 06:04 PM As of now, I am planning on going down there on the 4th! I am so excited to see my Baby. I've already got my roll of quarters...cheehey huh? Anyway, I can't wait!!!!
danielle 06-29-2002, 02:40 PM Everything looks like it's working out. Visitation list was approved and Thursday is a normal visiting day. I am so excited!!! It's been almost 4 months since I've seen Wayne - and it will be a conact visit, so I'll get to hug and kiss him. I cannot wait!
~cheenna~ 06-29-2002, 02:48 PM Sometimes... life can be wonderful, the sun shines and the birdies sing! Have a wonderful time and a safe trip.
Daveswife 06-30-2002, 02:30 PM I hope your visit is wonderful!
David was in a classification unit for 6 months. They said it was because of his epilepsy. Virginia allows visits on all state holidays.
