View Full Version : Can You Do This At Visitation (Take Unrelated Children??
Can I talk my nine month old daughter to see Rickey at Draper she does not belong to him and this will be the first time he has ever seen her. Will I have to produce some kind of documnet that she is his? I am just wondering because I was reading through some more threads and I found something that said you had to show proof that the child either belonged to the inmate or the inmate had adpodted them or that they child was the inmates step-child. Just how true is this??/
Seventeen and a half months to Rickey's release date and counting every day.;)
DeniseJ 08-12-2003, 02:08 PM you will have to show a Birth Certificate with him listed with as father. From my exprience they will not accept any other forms and they are very anal about it. My guy is not the father of my children either and have never been able to visit with him....
so to answer your question...it is very true. With it being your first visit you might not want to take her any way. They don't allow you to take any items in for children and i have seen many times small children have a hard time being intertained during visiting times.
Sorry to give you the bad news, but its better to know ahead of time....DJ
He can request a "special visit" for her, but from my exprience they have always denied it because she's not his....DJ

Thank you for the information. Rickey told me I could bring her but I wanted to make sure that I wouldn't have any trouble bringing her to see him. I do have a birthcertificate as him the father but it is very untrue. He has never laid eyes on her but I put his name on her birth certificate because he requested i do so. So, will I still not be able to take her?????/
DeniseJ 08-12-2003, 06:06 PM if her name is on the birth certificate your good to go.....Congrads.....I see women bring in small children, I have seen them tell the mom that the baby couldn't wear a hat. they only allowed one baby bottle and one diaper...if i was you i would call and see what you can take in with you for her...i'm so glad her birth cert. has his name on it....you must be very happy...don't worry, i'm sure once you get there you'll (and your daughter) will have a great visit...DJ
stillbelieve 08-12-2003, 08:24 PM You were smart to list him as the father. When my son's dad when to prison, I was 6 months pregnant. They would not let me list him as the father because he was not there to sign the certificate. Even though I gave him his father's last name, it took 10 months to get a special visit. He was almost a year old before his dad got to see and hold him.
Thank you stillbelieve I hope everything is going fine for your family now on visitation. Rickey wasn't there to sign the birthcertificate either but he is listed as the father so I am just hoping there won't be any trouble. Like I said he isn't her father but he wants to see his "daughter" so I hope this all comes out well. If it doesn't it will be another seventeen and a half months until he can see his little girl. And when he gets out she will be two years old and some months. The thing that really gripes me he said if Alexis isn't on the visiting yard when he comes up he is going to go back in. I am hoping and praying this all works out for the best. I understand the prison rules but I just hope they let her go in too. I have waited four loooooong years to see this man and I will die if I don't get to see him because they won't let his daughter in..
SEVENTEEN AND A HALF MONTHS TIL RICKEY'S RELEASE DATE AND COUNTING EVERYDAY:)
vlcoffman 08-12-2003, 11:57 PM I think different prisons are different... at holman it doesn't have to be their child. When I was able to visit Michael I would take my kids all the time.

Vicki,
Thank you for that information. The people at Draper are NO help what so ever. I called and asked to get a list of visitation rules and they said i could pick it up when i got there. NO HELP WHAT SO EVER. But, I just hope everything is going to go well for the first visit in four years. I will keep you posted.

Prisons must have different rules. I have taken my godson, who is 12, four times so far when I've gone to see my husband at Bullock CF. So far nothing has been said and no questions have been asked about him. He just gives them his student ID and I fill out a paper for underage visitor.
They said he doesn't even need to bring his ID unless he's 16 years old, but we take it anyhow just in case.

damoona 10-04-2003, 09:44 PM my boyfriend is at wasco reception and he wants me to bring my 8 yr old daughter with me for the visit he is not on her birth certificate but i heard that if the child is 8 yrs and up that they only need to bring a california i.d. card. is this true?
Damoona,
Hello this is Naomi. I saw the question you posted. I am not sure if California and Alabama have the same rules. But, when I took my daughter to see my fiance all I had to give them was her birth certificate. He isn't any where on the birth certificate but as long as you can produce a birth certificate with you as the mother of the child there should be no problems. I hope this helps you out some. Like I said I have no idea how different the prison system in California and Alabam are though. I do know that is all I had to give the COs when Alexis went to visitation.
