You might want to check out this website, concerning a group in Australia, called the Deaths In Custody Watch Committee (WA) Inc. They monitor prison abuse especially with an aim to prevent deaths (whether from medical mismanagement, or guard abuses etc.)

I especially LOVED their final report, which looks like a mission statement and set of objectives!

Wouldn't such a committee in EVERY country, be an astounding idea? Wow! I could just see them presenting cases under international law, to the International Court at The Hague, for violations of say, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, etc.

wow Mellony, thanks a lot of the link. I didn't know about this organization. it's wonderful. i will contact them. i'm working with a couple of people to set up a prison pen pal and information organization and it might be a good idea to share ideas with this organization, maybe we can make something worldwide and get some involvement somewhere important

You're welcome, Soraya.

I think this group originally got started by a family of an Aboriginal inmate who died in custody. They began simply by screaming out their frustration. Then they got organized!

From what I hear, they're now well respected, and do good work!

Never forget that every "advance" made in prison reform in the last few humdred years, wasspurred by "watchers" who were apalled and vociferous in their horror!
