Hi, I heard that they are trying to bring back Probation for Federal Inmates, and there is some where on the internet that you can vote for it. Does anyone know anything about it or know where the site is?
My daughter and I went to see Loren in Terminal Island last week. Wow it was great to kiss him and my daughter loved her daddy holding her. It was just really hard leaving him. But someday he will be here with us. Thanks again for such a great site. missing loren (Tina)

Welcome to PTO. I'm sorry I don't have the answer to your question but some one here will, I'm almost sure of it. Again welcome to PTO, I can't think of a better place for support.

Hi, I am an ex Federal inmate. I served as your husband will 85% of the time we were sentenced. He earns good time, which is 60 days a year, for a shot free inmate. He could get released up to a year off that by going to a halfway house, If it is a drug crime and he attends the drug program, but he will still be under the BOP. After serving his 85% he will then be put on probation and that is Federal policy, and is United State wide. If you need anything please feel free to contact me if I can answer any other questions. Bye

Thank you, Yes he is in for drugs conspricy to distribute 50 grams of meth. He got 7 1/2 years. He has been in about 2 years. He did get a sentence reduction of 2 years a few months ago. So if I understand it right he has about 3 and 1/2 left? Then it would be 85% of that? It all really confuses me. He thinks he will be out in July of 2005. I really dont know. I really dont understand it all. Thank you so much for helping me. missing loren (Tina)

Yes sorry, I guess I got in a hurry while typing, you are right. There is no Federal Parole, if your crime was committed after 1985 . Although most Federal inmates are sentenced with probation, after their incarceration. If your husband was sentenced to 7 1/2 years got a downward departure of 2 years that would give him 5 1/2 years in which he would serve 85 %. The projected release date is the date in which he should be home. Your Husband can go to his Unit Manager and obtain his projected release date. I was sentenced to 21 months, I went in on 2/17/00, went to the halfway house on 2/26/01 ( I received a 6 month halfway house) I was put on home confinement in July for one month, and released from the BOP in August now I continue to report to my PO. If I had elected not to go to the halfway house I would have been released on my projected release date of 08/26/01. I earned 3 months good time on a 21 month sentence. So your husband has right at a year of good time comming his way! So right now your looking at 2 1/2 more years before he is home, but if he attends the drug program (which he should) he is guantreed an additional year off, which is served at a halfway house. I recommend going to the halfway house because it allows him to earn home visits, and week-end passes. Plus he will be able to locate employment and begin his journey back into society. Just remember it is hard to come back, and feel like a whole person, he will have many up's and down's, and the road will cruve many times. Continue to be supportive and it will make the biggest difference in how he reacts to having his freedom back. I am still struggling to get the me back in my life. Welcome to PTO! My prayers are with the two of you!

The petition to reinstate federal parole is at the november coalition website. You can check his projected release date on the BOP locator at their website. You type in his name and all that stuff and it will show you where he is and a release date for him. I know it is hard, but it does not sound like he has much time left. Good Luck.

Jenna,
I have a question. My husband went before the PArole Board on July 29th and they recommend he be paroled by May 31, 2004. His case manager said that once he gets the Notice of ACtion in 21 business days which should be August 27th , that he would recommend he got to a Halfway House. Can you explain when he may go to the Halfway House or if he can get House Arrest until he gets paroled? He is a DC prisoner. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.
