my man should be sent to donovan soon. The laywer is requesting it and said it should happen cause its not full and its the closest one to where i live. he may recieve 16months to 4years. Although he is suppost to 85% of the time does that actually mean he will? iv heard a lot of people do 1/2 time is it possible that he will only have to do 1/2 even though it says 85%? I saw on here that donovan has a pre release program. The lawyer told me he will be a level 1 i dont even know what that means. Does anyone have any info on the pre release program iv looked but havent been able to find anything yet. What would the requirements be for him and how early is pre release? what would the program be like?

april, this is what i found. Not much though.
Institution Details and Programs
In April 1989, the institution activated its reception center program for incoming felons from local counties. The reception center completes diagnostic, medical and classification processes to determine initial institutional placement.
The Institution Hearing Program (IHP) at R. J. Donovan is designed to prepare inmates who are illegal immigrants for release to USINS custody and the return to their native lands.
Voluntary participants in the Amity program are provided intensive substance abuse treatment in the institution and support from other participants while on parole. Involuntary participants in the HOPE (Helping Our Peers Evolve) Through Recovery program are provided intensive substance abuse treatment in the institution.
CROP (Convicts Reaching Out to People) is a program for juveniles. Inmates participate in a hands-on, face-to-face approach with juveniles teaching and telling them about the downfalls of prison and the negative life of crime.
Religious services are provided for inmates of all denominations. This includes Catholic, Protestant, Muslim and Jewish services involving approximately 600 volunteers who are involved with Kairos, Life in the Spirit seminars, Ramadan, and High Holy Days.

50 percent is avaliable when its yer first offense. second offense goes to 85 percent. so i guess this is his second. level one means minimum security. thats good! he wont be with the population who commited higher crimes!

50% is for 1st offense OR if they do not strike you, however, if your 1st offense is a violent offense, you do 85%. if you are a 2nd striker, you do 80%. If he was given 85%, he will do 85%. There is no way to get any of that time back.
BTW... Donovan is a level 1 and 3 prison. And... I don't care what his lawyer says, if they do not have room for him at Donovan, they will move him. It does not matter how much he, you or the lawyer requests it. The judge put it in my husbands file to stay at Donovan cuz I lived in San Diego and have medical conditions that limit me from driving too long and they still moved him 125 miles away.

My son is in NKSP in reception, this is his first time in prison is it consider his 1st offense? plus he has 3 yrs left will that be 50% or 85% the time he will do, he was given 5 yrs but he had 505 days credit, and on his court order it only says 3 yrs, plus his credit, how much time will he do?
If this is his first time in prison, it is his first term/first offense. Whether he will do 50% or 85% will depend on what he was convicted of. Inmates that commit violent felonies as listed in Penal Code 667.5 must do 85% of their sentence. If his offense is not a violent felony, he will do 50%.
To calculate a release date, you need the total term (what he was sentenced to), his county jail credits, the date he arrived at CDCR reception center, and his credit earning status (50% or 85%). Then you can tell how much time he will do.
