My husband is in LAC B yard. He has been in reception for about two months now. Still no contact visits:( . No phones :( . And now because I had a failure to appear (that I already paid and took care of) no visits:cry: So all we have right now are letters. They are taking about 10 days to get our mail and about 3 days for us to get mail from them. When I did visit I had to make an appointment on Friday by phone (hard to do) Then when you get there it is not that bad. If you have an appointment you don't have to wait in line outside just drive around and go to the gate and tell them you have an appointment. They you walk up and tell the guard you have an appointment. (FYI Oh and they search the car when you go through the first gate) It wasn't that bad though. The nightmere stories made me afraid to visit, but of course we would go to hell if it meant to be with our loved ones.

That's too bad that you can't visit. My friend is in "C" yard and we get contact visits. He is getting my mail from 7 to 10 days, it's better than a month ago, where it was taking about 3 to 4 weeks for him to receive mail. This is the first prison I ever visit, and I don't think it's that bad ... maybe because I've never gone to another prison to visit.

Yes, the whole prison will soon become a Reception Center prison. Though, I have no idea how long it will take.

The Inmate Locator would not be able to tell you which yard he is on. You would have to call Lancaster to find out. Good Luck!

Hi Erika -

In the past I have received a speeding ticket and it has NEVER effected my visiting status before. In fact, in 2000 I was convicted of reckless driving and I was still approved to visit. I don't think your driving abilities will hinder you visitation approval.

Does everyone that has a visit need to call for an appointment??
How many yards are SNY??
And are inmates that get there from another prison on reception or just regular orientation??
I hear alot of people saying they can't get an appointment is it that hard??
And has the SNY yard been running for a while there?
My husband will be transferrred there and we just need to know that this yard has been operating and not just openning up.
Thanks

Not everyone has to make an appointment to visit. Only those visitors for reception and Ad/Seg. The reason why it's so hard to get an apointment is to my knowledge there is still only 4 visiting booths in the reception yard!! (This was once a normal yard w/ regular visiting) And I beleive the same goes for Ad/Seg.
If a Inmate comes from another prison, they're in oriantation and there is not visiting at this time. Once they're out of orintation, they'll be allowed contact visits.
The prison now has one SNY Yard ( Level 4) and it's been up and running for a long time, though it does tend to be locked down alot!!

The SNY Yard is on C. You need to get in line NO LATER than 5:00 am to be in the first group!! I am not kidding!!! :(

If you have an appointment to visit an inmate in Reception, Ad/Seg or a Family Visit you DO NOT need to go in the carline. Just drive up to the Guard Shack 1-1 1/2 before your visit.

Also,Inmates on Oriantation Status CAN NOT receive visits!

The visitors in the carline @ Lancaster are 100 times nicer than the CTF-SVSP carline ( I only visited CTF)!! Maybe that is because the line is only going in one direction and there isn't 2 lines forming North and South.

Hi Crazy Bubbles. Inmates are not allowed internet access. Contact is only made by phone or through letter writing. Here is the address you will need to write your boyfriend -

To write to an inmate, or send a package through an approved vender:

(Inmate's name, CDC number)
CSP/LAC (Yard & cell number)
44750 60th St. West
Lancaster, CA 93536-7619

I recommend calling your inmate's counselor to make sure you have his correct CDC, yard and cell numbers before writing. Just call the main number and ask to be transferred to "Inmate Records".

thanks cheetoes1 i did have a nice visit, and by the way my husband just talked to his couselor who informed him, that yes its true they will be transfering out inmates but he could not tell him when.by the way, i was impressed with lancaster and how they handle the line outside on avenue j. i come from a prison, where women will fight, seen the police there. so it was nice not to have to experience drama on the line for once. once you can compare lancaster to other prison, its not so bad.

Folsom prison to switch its inmate population
By Christina Jewett -- Bee Staff Writer
Published 4:42 pm PDT Monday, July 3, 2006

For 13 weeks this fall, Folsom State Prison will swap out its inmates for prisoners who have requested to be segregated from the general population for fear of reprisals or attacks, officials said.

The change is part of a larger re-alignment of inmates statewide that officials say is meant to match inmate groups with the state's 33 adult prisons, which are best suited to their needs.

Folsom State Prison, which houses 4,100 inmates, will be the first of the state's prisons to undergo changes, said Scott Kernan, deputy director of the adult institutions division of the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitations.

"We took the system down to zero, started building it up to getting the right population in the right bed," Kernan said. "The project took a long time. From that, significant recommendations were made. They made a lot simple common sense."

Hi to everyone, I have a 19-yo son in Lancaster. He was sentenced to 2 years but he said he only has to serve half of that. Not sure about that but I hope he's right. Judge recommended fire camp but he was just transferred to reception on 9/22.

I got my first letter from him this week and was so relieved to hear from him. He says he's ok and in a cell. I thought they were placed in dorms?

He is in B2-121, not sure what that means either. I'm sending in my visiting form tomorrow and will hopefully get to see him real soon. Does anyone know how long processing takes so I can visit him?

This message board has been great for us newbies to get much needed information when we don't know anything about prison. Thanks to all!

It took me 3 months to get approved to see my son. I hope it doesn't take as long for you. It took 3-4 weeks for him to get letters from me. If I sent it overnite he would get it in 10 days. But it costs $14.40 for overnight.

Everyone goes to reception, then they are evaluated for their points. The amount of points and their crime determines if they can go to firecamp. I hope your son does get firecamp. I am not positive, but I believe 50% timers get their time reduced to 35% if they go to firecamp. He should be in reception about 90 days.
Stay strong and keep your head up. If you need any more information, PM me.
