When a person comes out of a box jail such as Southport, where do they usually put them? My man has already been to sing sing, southport and auburn so hopefully he's somewhere closer. Just wanted to know if anyone knew if they go back to a max or if they put them in a medium?

if in a max, I would guess he will go back to one. Doubt if they would drop his security classification if he was in SHU. If he was in a medium before, I do not know. I do know of medium guys who went to SHU and got sent to a Max B when they got out-but this is just 2 people.

If an inmate comes in to the system as a max and over time he is changed to a med. and goes to SHU (over 30 days) he comes out as a max, back to the status of where he started.

The inmate always goes back to the status when he entered the system. That status is usually short lived and moves back to the status he was pre-SHU very quickly.

Well my husband went in as a max, classification dropped to a med, while in the med caught a ticket went to Southport and came out and went right back to max status. He was also told recently by his counselor that if you are in a max and your status drops to a med and you catch a ticket in a med you will never have the option of a preference transfer if your classification drops again to a med. they will put you wherever. But what i don't understand is that when his status dropped 2yrs ago to a med he wasn't given an preference facility option, they moved him from Elmira to Govenour which is 9hrs away, 26 miles from Canada. This town isn't even on the map.

Yeah, they will put them up there by canada coming out of the box. thats what they did to my man. I even heard the Co's say to make it hard for the people in the city to visit and make the inmates time even harder. it didn't stop me,I still went every weekend.

well to update you all, they got him in clinton! he's aiight with that because he knows alot of people in there so im happy about that

My pp was min and he has got a ticket sent to upstate in the box has not had hearing yet but could be 30 to 60 days for cursing an co was at altona max before so will he be sent to max again. Also what is the box l am new to all this
