View Full Version : What to wear for vistation and other rules.
Hi this is my fist time on PTO and i feel really stupid asking this question but..... I would like to know what some visitation rules and dress code for Draper maybe. I just got approved to go see my fiance after two years of not being able to see him due to distance in between us. I am looking forward to seeing him but need all the information I can possibly collect on visitation at Draper so I don't get turned away when I finally do go see him :)
DeniseJ 08-11-2003, 12:42 PM Noey,
Its been almost 4 years since Kenny was at draper, but back then it was the same old same ol
no white anything (desides undergarments)
no see thur
no sandels
no shorts
You might try the vistation forum and see if theres a list posted.
glad you here, welcome to PTO, i'm sure some one will come around and answer your question better...good luck

hey DeniseJ what website did you go for that information
softheart 08-11-2003, 01:12 PM Noey if you use the search button here at PTO it is at the top of the page. Then put in Draper you will find several posts about it.

Thank you softheart I am new to this and all the help i can get is appericated
DeniseJ 08-11-2003, 02:15 PM Noey....Did you find it?
Hello thank you I found it. It still isn't muc h help. I called Draper and they said I could get the information when I actually go see Rickey. I am a little worried I haven't heard from him since Thursday and TNetix is messing with the phones at draper again. He can call four times a week and they put a block on the phone so he can't call anymore unitl the next week. I just hope everything goes according to planned and I finally get to see Rickey after four years of waiting. And i will be one pissed off person if I don;'t wear the right clothes and they turn me away. I am just going to take an extra pair of clothes in case.
Seventeen and a half months til Rickey's release date and counting everyday :)
Fed-X 08-11-2003, 02:36 PM Noey,
Don't ever feel stupid asking questions.. :) It is how we all learn here. Sorry you didn't find out exactly what you wanted to know.
After you go to visitation and find out, would you mind posting it in this thread so others will know what to expect?
Thanks!
David
PS. Welcome to PTO!
David I will be glad to post it when I get the full details on the visitation rights at Draper. I see no reason why I shouldn't help other people out with loved ones in prison when they help me with so much. Thank you
Seventeen and a half months til Rickey's release date and counting everyday:)
danielle 08-11-2003, 06:06 PM The rules are generally the same for all facilities. No white, wear underwear (they check), no sandles, and no shorts or sweat suits.
Your guy should be able to fill you in on the money that you can bring.
Please post what you learn on here - we can always use more information! :)
Welcome to PTO!
Lysbeth 08-11-2003, 07:27 PM Noey, we've found most of the clothing and other regulations are the same at all Alabama facilities. Here's a thread posted awhile back with an old copy of the rules for Kilby:
http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7056
... and includes some more postings about various things about regulations at various Alabama prisons.
Honestly looking at the clothing regulations that stuff's the same now at Limestone so probably would be at Kilby too... only really new thing I can think of is that they are now saying all pants must touch shoes (i.e., don't wear capri pants).
My guy was at Draper before and says it's all been pretty much the same everywhere he's been (Draper, Kilby, Limestone & Bullock). What Danielle posted above is pretty much most of what you need to know. DON'T WEAR WHITE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES and wear undies and don't wear anything clingy or really low cut or form fitting and you'll likely be fine.
Sandals and open toed shoes are OK at Limestone but not flip-flops or those type sandals so I'd go w/ "regular" shoes or tennis shoes the first time until you see what their actual rules are and what everyone else is wearing (the latter will be your best help of all). Might not wear white tennis shoes the first visit either - they used to be banned at Limestone and aren't now but they might be elsewhere.
Have a great visit & share the info with us when you know!
Lys
Lysbeth 08-11-2003, 07:31 PM PS - Most of the women I see at visitation (and myself) are just in (not white!!!) t-shirts & (not overly tight!) jeans, so your best bet's probably somewhere along those lines. :)
vlcoffman 08-12-2003, 02:26 AM I'd like to add if wearing a dress.... PLEASE make sure that you have a slip on. I know this is stupid but I have been turned around for not having one on. Also make sure that you wear your bra or they will turn you around. You are only allowed to take rolled change in most of the prisons here in Alabama no paper money what so ever. I know at Holman you can not wear Jogging suits of any kind(woman) I also know that alot of prisons here you can't wear button down dress's in the front , or skirts that button down the front. They want allow wrap skirts either. I had one that looked like a wrap skirt until I had to prove to them it wasn't that it only appeared to look like one, that it only had a flap across the front. I hope this helps.
Take only your keys , license and rolled change inside. If you wear glasses you have to keep them on the entire time or they can try to claim contraband... be on your P's and Q's these prisons love to barr family members , it makes their job easier.

Lysbeth 08-12-2003, 03:13 AM She might want to check on the change vs. bills issue before she goes... starting June 1st at Limestone they made the money limit $30 and in bills only, no change (you have to make change of the bills at their machine), and I heard it was going to be an ADOC-wide rule eventually...
Thank you for all your help!!! I just hope it all goes well the very first visit in four years. I can't afford to be turned away I have waited to *amn long for this and I will take any info you guys have. Once again thank you so much.
Naomi
Seventeen and a half months til Rickey's release date and counting every day.
Lysbeth 08-12-2003, 06:52 PM Hey Naomi, meant to mention... I always make sure to have an extra change of clothes just in the car just in case, just like you mentioned. Haven't needed them yet, but it never hurts to be prepared...
Hope you have a wonderful visit and do come back and tell us all about it! :)
THANKS FOR THE INFO! IT IS ALL GREATLY APPERICATED. I READ SOME OTHER THREADS WHEN YOU SAID YOU KEEP AND EXTRA CHANGE OF CLOTHES JUST IN CASE. I WILL BE MORE THAN GLAD TO COME BACK AND REPORT ON MY VISIT WITH MY FINACE WHOM I HAVEN'T GOTTEN TO SEE IN FOUR YEARS THANKS TO THE SCREWED UP DOC'S IN ALABAMA
SEVENTEEN AND A HALF MONTHS TIL RICKEY'S RELEASE DATE AND COUNTING EVERY DAY:)
