I sent my fiance some mail overnight( $14.40). I called Wicomico County Detention Center today to see if he has received it. The lady told me it was there, but they will be sending it back to me. The reason being is because I had enclosed 30 pictures and they are only allowed 5 pictures per envelope. I tried explaining to her that we did not know the procedure being as though this is his first time there. I politely asked her if she could just give him the money order and send everything else back? She was like no that's not going to happen. Has anyone ever experienced this.

I found that sending mail express actually slowed down the delivery to the inmate.

The first thing that everyone learns in dealing with the detention centers is each is a little kingdom unto itself. Until you can get a copy of the policy for that certain cneter it is best to call the mailroom and ask about sending pictures or whatever. The MO will probably be returned to you and you will have to resend it, sorry that is not what you wanted to hear. Just keep on holding on and keep your head up. You can always come hear and get support and hugs.

Thank you for your reply. It is just that I am upset because he is out there with know money or anything. My baby is not used to living like that. I understand that he is locked up, but damn he dosen't have to be treated like that. I also don't want him to start feeling like I was doing for him when he was in the city and now that he really needs me I am not there. He has been let down so much in his life and I just don't want him to feel like I am going to do that.

Write him a letter and explain the situation and that the MO will be returned and sent back, maybe you could send a little something in the meantime. His basic needs are being met and he will survive so dont feel guilty over something that the BOP did. Send him lots of letters and cards, he will get through this and so will you. Will keep the situation in my mind and heart.

Thanks for your encouraging words. My fiance was moved back to Baltimore on Wednesday because he got into an altercation. I guess there was a reason for him not getting the Money Order. Now my question is since they have returned the money order to me, it has that I.D.# on it. Can I scratch it out and put his one from DOC on it or do I have to cash it and get a whole new one?

This is just my view from experience with the BOP. Go get a new money order from the Post Office and send that. If you want to try replacing the number and sending the original do that in a different envelope, or if possible cash it back in and send another one. Why give them a reason to turn it away again? Most of the time a Postal Money order is best since the system feels they are less likely to be involved in a scam or fraud. Its hard to play by the rules when they are re-written in mid game isnt it?

That would probably be the best thing to do, I like to us the Postal MO because it wont cost anything to trace if something were to go wrong and they seem to get on the books faster. Good luck on the second try.
