Looks like my boyfriend is going to be transfered to Old Folsom soon. What is it like there? Are the guards stricked with the dress code? Do people line-up the night before to get a good number? Is there a long wait to get in? Do the visiting rooms get full quickly? What are the visiting tables like, round, short, tall, etc? What's the best time to get there in the morning. What time and days are visiting? I know so many questions, I just want to be prepared. I have been visiting him at another prison for 3 years and I have become accustom to how things are ran there and a little nervious about how things are ran at Folsom. The great thing is I only live 30 minutes away....yahoooo.
Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Visting FOlsom isn't that bad.. u can't be on prison ground till 6:30 a.m. Then u line up for numbers.. it starts off by 1-40 at 7 a.m. then 41-80 7:30. and so on... you can only bring 1 key and an ID.. you can also bring 30 dollars worth in quarters and ones.. but if u do bring 5, 10 or 20,s there is a change machine but sometimes it runs out.. the dress code isn't that strict but just make sure NO UNDERWIRE BRA, and no shoes w/out the backstrap.. stay wid basic black, pink, red, purple or brown, and u could wear white bottoms, but make sure it's not see through.. u first go through the visting processing room and u wait till a co comes and call ur inmates LAST NAME.. then u wait outside u start heading off to another buildind, where u go through a metal dector.. then the gates opened, and u walk down.. it depends on where ur inmate is housed and if he's closed by, he'll be thea waiting for u.. if not, then u just pick a seat and sit and wait... theres NO TABLEs, and theres just a bunch of chairs.. it's only in 1 room for visting and it doesn't get pack till after 12.. but it depends.. visting is sat and sunday till 2 p.m. but you're LUCKY that you're so close i'm over 3 hours away..but if u need more info let me knoe.. i'll be glady to help u..:)

What time does visiting start? Everyone, from all yards, visit in the same room? Does it get cold in the visiting room during the winter and hot during the summer? Is there a lot of waiting outside? I have become very accustome to visiting at the facility he's at; even with it's screwed up areas visiting goes pretty smoothly. Thanks for the info...I greatly appreciate it.

well vists starts at 6:30- 2 p.m. .. yes everyone from all YARDS vist in the same room..inside is alot better because it has fans all around but outside is HOT.. theas not that much shade.. Sometimes it depends on how fast the co move the vist process, because the earliest time that i got to vist my husand was at 8:00 a.m. and it took him 30 mintues to come out.. he said that it was the CO's fault because he was already waited by his cell.. if u need more info, just pm me..:)

Does the visiting room get full quickly and are there many terminations? What about food? Are there vending machines or are there venders who come in and sell food? Where my b/f is at now there are venders who come and sell food to the inmates and visitors. I drove up to Folsom yesterday to get an idea of the location and what it looked like. The sun was starting to set and all I saw was the BIG wall from the parking lot. It looks scary!!! Oh....when the inmates are on lockdown do they still get visits? I think that's it.

Do they let you go outside at all during visitation @Folsom?
They used to have a fenced-in area at SVSP, but not now.

Do I understand you to say that there are NO tables?
Do they not have games or anything to do there except talk?
What do you set your food on?

sigh:shrug:

Yes, you can go out on the patio during visitation. There is a covered area with concrete benches, and some tables, which seat 4 people. There are misters around the top of the fencing, for when it gets really hot. Inside there are chairs, with low tables in front of them. There is a small TV with movies and a little play area for the kids. I have not visited there during the winter months, so I really can't tell you what to expect. Our visits have lasted anywhere from 2 hours to 6 hours. Terminations are a pretty regular occurence. Unless there is a distance factor, 250 miles I believe. I think there are other circumstances where they will not terminate a visit, but I am not sure what they are. Vending machines are OK. The vending machine guy is always there, going between the camp and the main visiting building, keeping things stocked. That wall and the main gate ARE pretty intimidating, but it doesn't scare me as much as it used to. Hope this was some help.

no, if inmates are on LOCKDOWN there will be no vists.. but u could call folsom prison at (916) 985-2561 and press 2 for vists and it'll tell u if anyone is on LOCKDOWN or on regular visting status.. in case you're driving far, make sure you call and check, because it could change... when i do vist my husband i call the night before and call when i drive up to vist him..but it folsom's hasn't been on LOCKDOWN and hopefully it stays like that..:)
