Hello everyone. I'm new here and was hoping to get some info. My boyfriend is in Deep Meadows correctional and has been having trouble with his blood pressure since he arrived there.{ well, evenbefore he was sent there} and they did some test over 2 months ago and found he has a tumor in the main artery to his heart and said he needed surgery. They still haven't scheduled anything for him. Last week he passed out and was sent to the hospital and stayed for 3 days and sent back to deep meadows. They told him the tumor was growing and cutting off blood supply but still hasn't scheduled surgery. My question is; how is the medical service at deep meadows and is there anything I can or should do to incurage them to schedule the surgery as soon as possible. I'm just really worried they are going to wait until it's too late. He only has 3 more months before release and I'm afraid they are going to try and wait until he is released so they don't have to be responcible for the sergury.

I would contact the Warden directly. Voice your concerns with her. If that doesn't satisfy you I would go up one leve and contact DOC. Keep climbing until you get the answers and the results you need. Don't give up. You are the only one that will be able to get this done, your boyfriend's questions inside will usually be brushed aside. I'm sure dwfighterva will come along and answer this question in more detail for you. Good luck and don't give up!!

Ahh, you know me so well!! Yes, the medical at Deep Meadows is terrible. First, he will have to sign a medical release form giving his consent that you be able to discuss his care with them. THen get ready for them to tell you they can't talk to you on the phone since they can't verify it is really you. *eyeroll* I wish I could remember the doctor's name out there. Clark, I think. Start with her. If you get no where, then call the warden. He is a nice guy. Alton Baskerville. When you call out there, he is #5000 and it will ring direct to him and he even answers his own phone when in his office.
As for surgery, I would almost bet money since he is close to getting out that they will nurse him along until he does get out. They do not like to pay for extra medical treatments. Even something like having a tooth pulled wont' happen. I know you are very worried about him, but I would almost want him to be out to have the surgery. You can talk to the doctors and visit and all. But if this is life threatening and you can't wait, document all of this and start with the doctor and then go to the warden.
Good luck and keep us posted on your struggles!!
