I have a co-worker that stopped coming to work after 10 years of an excellent attendence history. I kept asking about him and the managers would only tell me "They were not at liberty to tell me what happened." Now after 3 years I finally bugged them so much one finally told me he was sent to Huntsville for shooting up his x-wives house with an semi machine gun and a few other things???? They said he was working in the kitchen.
I called Huntsville and asked how I could write him and visit him. They told me I had to have his Social security number. I tried to retrieve this from work but his work record is already destroyed. Please tell me there is a way to contact someone in Huntsville without knowing the person's social security number. Thanks.

If you go to the "lost in the system" forum, there is a thread on Texas DOC and how to locate people--also there are several people on here from Texas who may be able to help you if you don't get what you need there
good luck

Torrey,
Don't believe everything they tell you there. You don't necessarily need a social security number.. That would just make their job easier for them.. :P They can use factors such as county of conviction, date of birth, full name with middle initial/name, and of course, inmate registration number.
Basically, when you give them their name they may need something to narrow down the results. You can even ask them how many people are in the system with that name.
Your best bet is to use the county of conviction, their approximate age, and complete name if you have it. Don't take "we can't help" for an answer. Ask for a supervisor if needed.
If all this fails.. Send me his full name and info and I will run with it for you.
Keep in touch and let us know what you run into!
David
P.S. - I will copy this thread to "Lost in the System" and then close it. So, please follow up there.

Thanks everyone,
Shortie , the Huntsville main information line is the number I called before. The information person told me he could not help me unless I already had his prisoner ID number or Social security number. I will call them again because the person working that day did not know what they were talking about I see. I will also check out the other sources you listed.
