Does anyone know anything at all about Interstate Compacts?
My sweetheart is at Pelican Bay and I am 2400 miles away from him. He wrote me and asked if I could find out who to talk to, what to do and what the requirements are for an Interstate Compact so he could be closer to me.
Any information would be very appreciated.

Your man would have to talk to his counselor to start the ball rolling on an interstate transfer. In theory he would have to get your state to agree to swap out a prisoner for him.
Honestly, he really has a snowballs chance of getting transferred out of state. The state has stopped in-state transfers for hardships, and while not impossible, it's highly unlikely that he would be accepted for a transfer, especially while he's at Pelican Bay.
Your best bet would probably be to move to California once he finally leaves PB.

Is there a reason I would need to wait til he's somewhere else? I mean, I can't move there now, but it made me curious.
Also, he refuses to come to my state cuz he says he's heard about these prisons and that aint cool.. ;-) so I guess since the Receiving state needs to have a relative that whole idea's out! Humph, guess I better start saving huh? LMAO, thanks bunches

e-wife03 - all I'm finding there is for parolees and offenders moving to other states once released. We were hoping he could serve his time (33 to life) closer to me. Any info on that?

I suppose you could move there before he leaves Pelican Bay. But who knows what kind of job market there is there, and once he leaves there, they'd probably send him way down south near the Mexico border, and you'd be in the same sort of dilema.
At least with him in PB, and you so far away, if you visit you'll rack up some serious frequent flyer miles. Oh, and your visit won't get terminated due to overcrowding. Sorry, those were the only good points I could come up with. :)
