Are incoming and outgoing letters both read?

Thanks!

Neither are going to be routinely read because they do not have the staff nor the time to do it. However, you should never write anything that would get him in trouble if it WERE read.

Usually the incoming mail is opened just to check for contraband.

If they take a particular interest in an inmate, then they may read every single piece of their mail. Some inmates' mail is not only read but copied and sent to the U.S. Attorney. And, as revealed in a recent RICO trial, some inmates' mail is handed over to other inmates to scrutinize and give their comments to the BOP on them. So one never knows - you have to assume that everything you write can be read, copied, etc. No privacy rights. Zelda

Dear Ifoundhim,Zela50 hit that nail on the head!!!!!! Everything is always at any given time under total scrutiny. His drawer, locker, room, and his person. Always be circumspect in all areas of contact with him. This keeps you both safe and protected. In every area where there might be even a small amount of risk, protect yourselves. May "HE" who is above, walk beside you both and watch over you both, guiding your steps till your together again in each others arms.DOLLARBILL.

It is my belief that the screening is random! I remember, one time my fiance drew a plan of his unit, showing me where his room was located and what it all looked like. They let it through and i received it. A few weeks later a dude tried to escape, so he drew me a plan of what happened. The stopped that before it went out!
