Doc's Sis 08-23-2006, 08:29 AM In Rikers when you visit an inmate, do you have to talk through a glass or can u be able to have some contact?? As in many places, it could depend on his security status. When you write to him, ask him if he knows the answer. He should have been told the visiting rules - and if it is behind glass or not. For your sake, I hope it won't be using a phone and looking thru a glass - but if that's the case, something is better than nothing. Right? Niightdrmr 08-23-2006, 08:29 PM I am moving this into the NY state forum so someone there might be of more assistance to you! Kelly Amdizzle 08-23-2006, 08:56 PM Thank Yall for the help, he said we will be sitting across a table from each other! But it's so hard now that he's gone and it's only been a few weeks. I don't know how you guyz have made it through this, but i'm struggling. Every time we talk on the phone he sounds like he wants to die but he tries to be strong. I have no one to support me and him through this but you all on this site and i'm so grateful for da support!! THANK U!!! FaithfulNena 08-25-2006, 03:58 PM It depends what facility. They are all across from each other but it depends what facility and how the tables are. In ARDC is across round color tables reminds of the kindergarden years , GMDC is a longggggggggg table, OBCC is across just like ARDC. GRVC is the same as ARDC & OBCC, NIC is diffrent, and I dont know about Rosie saltygal 08-30-2006, 11:49 PM Hello Amdizle, good luck sis. yes, it's tough...like someone else said...it gets easier and tougher with time. we all have our bad days when we cry and just are stuck in the waiting, others...we are able to cope. just remain positive. be positive for him cuz he will need it (and so will you). good luck & welcome! truelovewaits 08-31-2006, 11:49 PM best of luck to you. you will find all the support in the world here on PTO. i come here everyday and i always get encouraged even on the worst days. no one judges you and it is a great comfort. U only get a visit like that if he's done something to have a no contact visit..... MissEve 09-09-2006, 10:27 PM Hey, I know it feels like noone supports you in this, and there are going to be moments when it gets lonely, but just know that you need to be strong for your baby inside cos it's probably worse on him knowing that you aren't doing good. I know that my man worries more about me being alone outside than he does about himself inside, and so I always keep it really positive when we speak, even when I'm sad or upset. Just know that it's your soul that connects you two, not your physical being, so having that said, work on your spiritual connection while you wait for him. It will all be good in the end. skillz 09-29-2006, 12:50 AM You are so not alone. There are many people in the same boat as you. If you ever need somewhere to vent or feel you need someone to talk to, come here and let it out. Dont EVER feel alone cause thats NOT the case!! I hope you have/had a wonderful visit!! Envysantoz 11-21-2006, 06:09 PM It depends on what jail house he is in. I know im gmdc you sit across from one another and you arent behind a glass i dont know about anybody else Two of Hearts 11-23-2007, 04:23 PM I've only visited at GMDC and ARDC. Of the two, GMDC was definitely better. You sit across a table, and it is a bit too wide for you to hugh comfortably, but it has to do. Even though the tables at ARDC are individual (as opposed to the really long table at GMDC), they are low and wide and it's even more uncomfortable to reach for your loved one. Plus, they don't let you put your elbows on the table for some reason. The wait at ARDC was also a lot longer than at GMDC, even though GMDC had more people waiting to visit. From what I know, they only way you get a glass between you two is if they suspect you of having contraband but don't have enough evidence to terminate the visit. I saw this happen to a girl during a canine search. The dog sat down in front of her and they had to search her. But I guess they didn't find anything because I saw her in line for the visit after that. They did put her in the booth with the glass in between though. ricksbabe 11-25-2007, 12:52 PM all facilities in the island u sit across from each other. the only time you sit behind glass is when ur getting a booth visit. u are allow to touch each other and kiss as long as ur not touching each other in an appropiate way and u cant get off ur seat which its very hard to kiss in gmdc without getting of ur seat b/c the tables are so high. but hey its better than a booth visit. feel free to pm me if u need any more info. i actually go to gmdc to see my babe.good luck on ur visit roundtheway 06-12-2008, 04:14 PM Booth visits (with glass) are reserved for inmates labeled RED ID's or ICR's. Inmates with red id cards have been found with a weapon or have used it in a fight or something. ICR cards = intended contraband recipient. They are given to inmates that have cigarettes or drugs found on their person or bed during a search. If you man has a regular ID card, then its the Looooooooooooooooooong table for you guys. |
