My best friend just got transferred to camp meadows last week. Do you have to put in for visitation (he was at a detention center and you had to email a request for the day and time you wanted to visit). I know this is done on odd and even numbers (is sat. for odd numbered inmates and Sun for even?) Also during visitation will you get to touch the inmate or do you visit through glass?

If anyone knows anything personally about camp meadows I would greatly appreciate any information you have. Thanks for your help.

ggirl63 Welcome to PTO! He is at Deep Meadows which is an intake facility. You don't have to call ahead, but it does go by odd and even days. Call out there and see when his day is. All information on DMCC is in this thread (http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=220318). If you have any other questions, just holler.

Hello Dwfighterva (? spelling)! I tried sending my friend money from the western union link above however it would not go through. I then called western union and the guy said I needed the code-city? However I did not see anywhere on there a request for that. They did ask for some number which I assumed was his inmate number. Have you ever sent money via western union? As always thanks for helping out.

I am DW, you don't have to use the whole name. :D I never used Western Union online, but I have used JPay. www.jpay.com You enter in his DOC number and they will send it directly to his facility. It will go on his books the next day or two and he will be able to use it. They do charge for this service but if you have to get money there quick, it is an option.

For regular money orders, DOC prefers ones from the post office and they only charge $.95 so I just do that. Because of that, I only used Western Union once when I went to Krogers late one night and hurried and mailed it. They took over a week to process it so I quit and either did Post Office or Jpay.

Only problem with Jpay is say he is at Deep Meadows for 4 months, no problems. Then they move him to Coffeewood. Any money you send for about the next two weeks will still go to Deep Meadow and not to him at Coffeewood. Eventually it will get to him, but don't send electronic for a couple weeks; mail them in.

Aw shucks! Thanks! I know all too well the feeling of hopelessness and worry. I was a basket case when he went in, cried for days. Then I found PTO and it was like the clouds parted and I started to see the sunshine. I know, that's corny but it is true.

I remember his calling me saying his friends put money on his account. I went, "Huh? Money? Account? What are you talking about?" Like anything, we all learn what we have to as we go along. If I can help others, then it makes me smile because I remember how hard it was for me.

This is not an easy path, but we can make it together. :grouphug:

HEy DW (my guardian, den mother or what do you call yourself the moderator LOL)... I have read that an inmate can request 3 places to go after intake. My friend is at Deep Meadows and today he informed me he got to talk with his counselor and things went well. I remember seeing somewhere a map of the prisons in VA becuase I saw one (#22 on whatever map I saw) that is closer to MD than Deep Meadows. He informed me that he is a level 1 so I think that facility was a level 1 but I cannot recall the name of it (I am looking for the closest "good" facility LOL to me ....Maryland). when I told my guy there was one such place he asked me the name but I cannot find that map again. Can you help?

It was so great to talk to my guy these past few days and he said that without me he would never have gotten through all he has these past 6 months. Thankfully I found from one of your earlier threads his release date so we have just under 8 months to go. It seems like forever!!!

Thanks as always for your help. You are really kind.
Ggirl!

Each section on PTO has a map courtesy of Daveswife who thought ahead to download and save the maps before DOC changed their pages and dumped the map. The Central one is here (http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=176961). The 22 is Coffeewood and it is a Level 2 facility. If he is a Level 1, it can be a high or low. You can find them listed by security level here (http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=212278).

Now keep in mind, they ask for three but there is no guarantee he will get any of them. As for any level 1 being better than others, it is a toss-up. They are all good camps with around 100-150 guys and it is the best type of place to be, considering it is still prison.

As for places in Northern VA, there aren't any. Why? It costs too much to run them there and they would lose money.

I am glad you got to talk to him. That can really make a difference to both you and him.

His mail will be addressed as something like 1 A-12-B. That would mean he is in building 1, on the A side, bunk 12, and A would be bottom and B is top.

When you visit, you can kiss and hug at the beginning, just don't go overboard. You can hold hands across the table, but if you try anything else, they will stop you and can terminate visits. You can also kiss and hug at the end. He can go with you to the vending machines, but don't get too frisky up there either.

So now he's at Deep Meadow and not Greenville? Make sure not to assume that the info for Greenville is the same.

:(This isn't a comment, but a question. I would like to know if someone has had any problmes with the mail at Deep meadows? My fiancee says that they read the mail, but can they not give it to an inmate? My fiancee and I have been communicating through letters for weeks now and just recently his letters seem like he isn't getting mine. My fiancee and I have been diligently trying to get his time spent in another facility added to his time so that he can be released earlier. I finally got the paperwork with the dates and sent it to him with a letter from me asking him to write back telling me he got it, but since then he's been responding like he's sad and wondering why I haven't written. I don't think he's gotten my letters, is there a number to call can a check be made, has anyone had any problems with the mail at the facility? It's like someone is trying to stop him from submitting that letter and trying to come between us by holding his letters. IF ANYONE HAS AN IDEA, Please HELP! :thumbsup:Thanks in advance.

Quick question ladies, My fiancee is being held at Deep Meadow Correctional facility and all of a sudden his mail that I have been sending him hasn't been gettign to him and he hasn't switched locations within the jail because he just sent me a letter. In the letter he says, that he feels abandones, etc so i know my letters arent reaching him. The last time he got a letter was on his birthday and the next letter I sent included his letter showing time served in another facility. Could that be the reason my letters aren't reaching him? Has anyone encountered delays with the mail?

Mail is always a problem. If they can't accept it for some reason, he is supposed to get a paper telling him mail was rejected. I would suggest sending the same letter a few times at the same time. Also, call the post office and lodge a formal complaint.

Yes, DOC can get around the rules by saying it is a security risk but that can only go so far. I would also write a letter to the warden and list all the dates you have sent in letters and they were never received.

My old man is also at Deepmeadows. I live in Virginia beach and he says he get my mail in about a day or two. So far we have had no issues with the mail. it takes me a little longer to get his letters. Are you putting more paper in the letters than allowed (only 5)? I did have something refused once and it took me about 3 weeks to receive it returned. I hope it works out, I know mine would be lost with out his mail.
