I visited my man at the county jail and he was telling me that his plea bargain is still 1 and half year in prison and he'd come out on parole * hes innocent but lawyers sucks* anyways.. he was tellin me that he was tellin his lawyer *whom sucks* that he wants to get rehab. I was like what? He's like if i took rehab i'd have to tell the judge that i was an alcohlic and i used drugs all the time *not true* and he stated that if he did get rehab he'd be out in 6 months to a year. I need someone to tell me what rehabs are like compared to prison. I even told my man that I'm very uncomfortable with him tellin the judge all that crap and tryin to get rehab. I mean I understand he doesnt want to go to prison *he's been in prison in the past* but I don't want him to tell lies about himself when he and I know it isnt true. I mean its like he's tryin to find an easy way out but with rehabs *since I dont know much about it but have read abt it on this websites threads* I don't feel comfortable with it. I'm not even comfortable with him going to prison for a crime he did NOT commit... Help me!

Well, my boyfriend is in somewhat of a similar situation. His hearing is tomorrow. He's hoping for a rehab instead of having to return up north. You asked what the difference is. I would say they're somewhat similar in the fact that the clients/inmates are not allowed to leave either one. The difference is when they're in rehab the amount of time they have to remain in the facility may be from a month to a few months before they are let out on their own. In prison, they're in there until their sentence is up! Big difference. My boyfriend has been telling me that if he takes rehab over prison once he's finished the rehab program he won't have to deal with parole. His debt will be paid. If he returns to prison he'll be on parole AGAIN, which is a pain in the arse for our guys! In the rehab, depending on the facility, I also think there are genuine people there who are looking to help the clients versus in prison where the staff are there to just keep the inmates in line.
I hope this helped. I definitely think rehab is a better deal if he can get it. Good luck.

My man just got out of prison, and had to go to a rehab for 6 months to finish his sentence. I did go visit, and it's SO much better than prison. He is not a drug user, but was selling and this is part of the sentence. I don't like him being there, but it's SO much better than prison.
He's been there for 3 months, and now has the potential for community passes which means he can leave for 4 to 8 hours. Nothing better than that! Except that he has to go back. That is going to be hard.
The difference is more freedom, but again like someone said they can't leave.
I say if your man can get rehab, go for it!!

REHAB HELPS OUR LOVED ONES
PRISON WAREHOUSES THEM
I hate that the system would rather throw them away then help them.

I was in a rehab and a halfway house, long term. The residents that were court stipulated there were not allowed to leave the property. Sounds like it is not a standard rule and the rules must be decided on an individual basis?
