MrsBenji 08-09-2006, 05:13 PM I went ahead and moved this over to the Federal Forums. The folks here can answer you much more accurately. Fed facilities usually are quicker than others, but it will still be a few days, at least. Jenn infowanted 08-09-2006, 06:35 PM Before they can use the phones they have to turn in a phone list and have their numbers approved. Additionally, their account has to be set up and money put in it. When my husband went to camp we were told 5 to 10 days to get the account set up. It actually took 11 days. I was able to talk to him twice before that though. I called and talked with his counselor after 4 or 5 days and he let my husband use his phone and call me to let me know he was ok. A few days later on a Sunday they actually let him call me again since his account still wasn't set up. So it depends on his counselor, because some will let them make a call. Mail is the same way. He has to get stamps, which he can't buy until his account is set up. SusanT 08-09-2006, 07:32 PM Danat, Begin mailing your husband a letter or photos from home every day. Mail call is the highlight of any inmates day. As you have been told, he may be able to phone from his counselor's office briefly and someone may even loan him a stamp but it may be 10 days before you talk with him. Whether he is in his counselor's office or on the regular phones, please remember that phone calls are all recorded and randomly monitored. noname10 08-10-2006, 05:18 PM Just a little info for those whose loved ones are transferring or whatever in the BOP. If your dont have funds and are considered indigent then you are entitled to 3 stamps a week from the BOP, the counselor will not tell you this, but it is true. I went in from a county jail with 0 money, medical did not clear me for 5 weeks and then it was like the first of the month when I started work and another 5 weeks before pay posted. I went to the A&O counselor each week and got 3 stamps. I also got soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrush and body wash from laundry during this time. This helped since I got zero dollars from outside while I was in, but managed to survive. So I know if I can anyone can. sheedah25 08-12-2006, 01:08 AM when my fiance turned his self in on a Saturday he was able to make two free calls on Tuesday and after his phone was set up with my number he called me that thursday, he is at FPC Duluth |
