View Full Version : Need Help: Boyfriend Just Transfered: Baldwin Inmate Boot Camp
pnutsgirl 08-02-2006, 11:38 PM Hey everyone! I am new to PTO. My boyfriend was recently sentenced to life on July 14, 2006 And...... My Boyfriend was just sent to Baldwin State Prison for diagnostics yesterday. They moved him from Fulton County Jail in Atlanta to Baldwin.
How long will that last?
Will he be able to call me when he gets there?
Will I be able to visit him during diagnostics?
Will he be able to write me?
I dont know what to do because his friend called me from the jail and told me that they moved him last night and he was crying. He didnt even get to call. If anyone has any information or even some things you think I may need to know , please feel free to tell me. Thanks in Advance.

IrishEyes 08-03-2006, 10:23 AM Hey girl.. try to take some deep breaths and calm down. Worrying isn't going to help things at all. There's a process called orientation that each guy/ girl must go through once they're sent to a new facility, and this is where they fill out visitation persons, phone lists, and give the facility background information. This process can take a few weeks (or less) to get completed, and he should be able to call once that's done. Also, he will need money on his books so that he can purchase paper, pen, envelopes, stamps, etc,.. so go ahead and get the contact information by calling the Boot Camp, then you'll need a money order for his books. Someone may come along and help him out until he gets that money, and you should expect a letter, at the least. Being at a Boot Camp is much better than a state "big house" so keep your chin up!!
One thing to remember is that he needs to stay out of trouble and walk a very, very straight line. They can send him to the big house if he doesn't "play well" there at the Boot Camp, so encourage him to be a good boy. As for you, remember this: It's a long road, and you've got to pace yourself. Take care of YOU first, and then you'll be better able to take care of him. If you need anything,.. we're here for you!!
MI_REINA 08-03-2006, 11:09 AM Hey girl, I some what got some info for you. My boyfriend was recently in Baldwin Diagnostic boot camp, and I went thru what you are going thru right now. Well no visits and no call for the first six weeks. At baldwin they will have him there to do tests and to determine which prison will be his permenant one. In my case my boyfriend was there and later transfered to bootcamp. Your man's only way of communication is thru letters. All I can recommend send him some money for stamps, and write to him that is the very first step, till he gets to a permenant camp, and its hard for first timers. keep in touch hope this helps....
crankygrlfriend 08-03-2006, 07:21 PM My boyfriend went through diagnostics at Baldwin, he got through within 6 weeks. He said it wasn't too bad. Just write lots of letters, and keep reinforcing how much you are there for them. I think reality starts to set in once they start doing all the interviews and tests. he said they did medical, IQ tests and meetings.
pnutsgirl 08-04-2006, 07:27 PM Thanks but is there anymore people that can tell me about baldwin boot camp?
pnutsgirl 08-05-2006, 04:20 PM Nevermind now I just found out it was Jackson not Baldwin so I am starting a new post

redhotblueflame 07-02-2008, 01:19 AM Hi. My man just left Baldwin. They undergo 8 weeks of Diagnostics. Here they will do a full medical checkup, mental profile, fill out lots of paperwork in regards to visitation, phones and the like. They are allowed to make calls as soon as their phone list is approved and put into their computer. The faster the inmate does the paperwork and returns it, the sooner they can make calls. They can receive mail anytime although it is not passed out on the weekends. Address is as such... name of inmate, GDC#, Baldwin State prison, po box 218 hardwick ga 31034. From here the decison will be made from the gathered info where the inmate should go, they could make him a perm at Baldwin, send him to a county camp or to a boot camp or to Rivers which are all located together in the same area, Millidgeville. My man was transferred from county jail to Baldwin May 6 and was transferred to Rivers today. He said it was ok, respectful C Os, 50 man dorm w/ 8 showers and 8 stalls w/ curtains, yard calls, volleyball, basketball, very basic exercise equipment, they get to watch movies (they watched Alvin and the Chipmunks the other night) they have a day room with phones tables for games and a tv, lights out at 10:30. While he was there they gave my man kitchen detail, up at 3;30 am 3 days on 4 days off then 4 days on and 3 days off, smoke cage, 3 meals a day except for on weekends, only breakfast and dinner.Phones stay on. Depending on the dorm, some have lockers under the bed small and other dorms have larger tall stand up lockers. They walk to commisary for everything from radios to magazines toiletries, t snacks pens pads etc. They will allow for him to be mailed up to 20 pictures in an envelope, you can send pics in TASTEFUL lingerie for his enjoyment, ABSOLUTELY no nudity no crotch shots even in panties or butt shots everthing else is good. Visitation is not allowed ofr the first 8 weeks but after he is finished they will put him where he will fit best and here is my situation, your man will be in his perm location and you can go visit....finally!!!!!!When he is moved you can send Care Packages to him and when you visit you can take rolls of quarters and buy food and eat it with him at a table, kids are allowed, it is contact and he is allowed a hug and a kiss upon arrival and departure and he must stayed seated during the visit. Saturdays and Sundays only from 9 am to 3 pm. If you have kids then 1-2 diapers per child 1 cup juice or bottle per child and wipes must be in a clear plastic baggie. I will post more as I find out. As far as care packs are concerned....house shoes, robes, white tank tops, tennis shoes, photo album w/ no metal ring watch necklace Du Rags PJs, again I will post more as I find out. he says at Baldwin they have real sinks, free world sized toothbrushes and toiletries this is apparently good news!! So all in all my man says its ok, and is treated very well. You can call Baldwin and ask questions between 8am-4pm and even talk to his counselor. Also just a side thought, the board of pardons and paroles holds a visitors day every 2nd Tuesday of each month at various locations all over GA, the next one is July 8 in downtown ATL from 8am -4pm, here you can talk to a representative about his case.I hope this helps you. I have spent many hours locating all of this info and pumping my man for some insight for myself and my fellow PTO family. If you want to chat hit me up!!:D:D:D:D:)
