my friend was recently transferred to the mental ward at carswell and hates it there. lots of chaos and madness. she suffers from bipolar but with meds, she's functional.she wanted a transfer from where she was at, but she didn't think this would be worse. she came from alderson fpc and she wants to return there. does anybody know how i can get her transferred out of the mental ward and eventually out of carswell? i've emailed her lawyer, but is there anything i can realistically do? she's suffering beyond comprehension..would emailing the prison or talking to her shrink make a difference? thanks for any and all advice!

Welcome to PTO I honestly have no answers for you but before long I am sure that someone will come along and be able to help you. Just know that you are not alone and there are very caring and helpful people in this forum that will listen or help guide you through this. Jackie

Oh, shoot, willie! I just answered you in the other thread before I read this one. :(
The only thing I can offer up is a suggestion to do what I have done. Go to your Congressman.
I know ours, Ray LaHood, has a Federal Criminal Justice System specialist. She is working right now to straighten out the mess that Jacquelyn's lawyer made and get her moved up here closer to home.
Call your Congressman's office and schedule an appointment to go in and talk to someone. Be very honest and tell them what you want to come to see them about so they can schedule you with the person who will do you the most good. When you go in, be dressed as professionally as you can and have already outlined what you are there to discuss with them. Take a copy of everything you can with you - sentencing papers, contact numbers, etc.
Oh, and since this is a friend and not a child or a parent, the next time she calls you tell her to send you a signed release allowing you to act, speak, and receive information on her behalf. It doesn't have to be fancy, but she has to sign it and she should have it witnessed.
send me a private message with your email address and I will be glad to go into a little more depth.
I am not saying they can do anything for sure. But it WILL make you feel better just for having been pro-active.
Surprisingly, after spinning my wheels with the people who SHOULD have been helping me with her, I am getting some very positive results with my Congressman's office.
Good Luck! And send her lots of happy, silly cards to brighten her mood and let her know you love her in the meantime. :)
