I am new to this site and I am needing some help if at all possible! My sister has a very bad drug problem, and has had for a few years now. Well this past weekend she was put in the hospital for a "mild heart attack" and her potassium was extremely low, she is also suppose to be taking Synthroid for her heart, she has had heart trouble before ever getting on the drugs...To make a long story short, she needs help. The doctor told us the drugs are going to kill her of she doesn't get help and I have called everywhere and can't get the info I need..Bradford wanted 8000.00 just to get her in:eek: ..I'd give them 8000.00 to help her if I had it but I don't..I am not familiar with drugs, I have never taken anything that the doctor didn't say was OK..Her on the other hand, has tried everything I am afraid. My question is does anyone know of a place that will help her that doesn't cost a fortune?,..She needs in a place (residential like), not something she can walk the streets everyday and still use..ANY help is appreciated..We are so afraid the drugs are going to kill her, or the people that she is fooling with one..And If they don't she is probably going to head to prison....Please help, I love her but I am lost as to what to do..TY In Alabama

Mgdinbama,
I am so sorry to hear about your sister! We have a subforum here in the D & A main forum, entitled Addiction Resources, that lists rehabilitation centers ( some are residential) for each state. If you check in that sub-forum, you may be able to locate something to help her. We also have a forum entitled Dual Addiction and resources are found there also, that may be of use to her.
I know that you love her, and that this is very difficult for you to sit a watch...I welcome you to PTO, and to the D & A Rehab Forums; I am sorry you have to be here with such painful circumstances, but you have definitely found a great place for support and understanding 24/7 in PTO.
Please review what information we have posted, and let me know if you need anything additional. Keep us posted. We do care what happens!!! I am sending my best wishes and ********************{BIG HUGS}}}}}}}}}}}}}} to help you and your sister through this difficult and dangerous time...

Thank you ever so much! We have seen her just nearly waste away and I hate seeing her like that, getting beat up by some man that just feels the need to hit her and them being almost 3 X's bigger than her, makes me sick!! She has kids and that makes it all the more harder...Y'all seem like a wonderful group..GOD BLESS!

Mgdinbama,

Sending prayers and hugs your way. There's a really good rehab in SC. The name escapes me at the moment, I'm sure I found it through here. It's a 2 year treatment facility with a good success rate. It's free but there is an application and approval process to qualify for admission.

I wish you and yours the best of luck.

Drug Treatment Programs in Alabama (http://www.drug-rehabs.org/drug-rehab.php/Alabama)

Your best bet would be to go online and do a search for drug treatment programs in Alabama. Your area.

Then call the centers and ask them questions like what the cost is, if there are county beds-county beds meaning that a certain amount are set aside for those who don't have any money or insurance.

Unfortunately I only know drug treatment programs in California and I will do my best to help you find one.

Your sister needs to take the initiative and be the one to make those phone calls. Most places won't even do intakes or put her on the list if she is not the one who is requesting treatment. Encourage her to go to an at least 90 day residential program and let her know what's 90 days out of the rest of your life??

Good luck hon! i know how scary this must be for you.
