CHICANA760 07-28-2006, 06:04 PM Hi Every One I Am Fairly New To This Web Site And I Came Across This Form. My Husband Is In Calipatria And Has Been There Since The Beginning Of The Year. It Is Great To Have Him So Close By He Used To At Hdsp. The Drive Over Was A -----. Any Ways Unfortunately He Was On Lock Down For A Long Time And Well Something Happened So Now He Is In The Shu. I Was So Looking Forward To Finally Having A Contact Visit But That Isn't Going To Happen Any Time Soon. Any Ways Just Wanted To Stop In And Say Hello To All Of You.
TIA4TWO 07-28-2006, 07:17 PM Hello and Welcome to PTO:wave:
I have a cousin who is also at Calipatria (well he was until yesterday) they took him out to go to court. I'm pretty bummed about that because I was going to go and see him this weekend. He doesn't get many visitors so he was quite happy that I was coming to see him and I was going to bring our grandparents. :( I've only been to see him once and it was soooo hot; however, the visiting room is air-conditioned so that was good. I hope you get to see your loved one soon, visits mean so much.
Lisa

mslinda 07-30-2006, 10:57 PM Hello everyone! I'm new to this site too. A friend of mine is in Calipatria. I was wondering how long it will take for him to be notified if I was approved to visit.? I look forward to a visit, being that we haven't seen eachother since we were little kids, I think seeing him will be quite akward.
TIA4TWO 07-31-2006, 10:22 AM Hi mslinda:wave:
First let me say Welcome to PTO! I can totally relate to your post because I went through the same thing. It can take anywhere from say 3-6 weeks in order for you to get approved to visit. They will notify your friend when you have been approved and it will be his responsibility to notify you. Don't worry too much about the awkardness. I recently went to visit a friend that I haven't seen in about 18 years. He was actually supposed to be my prom date:eek: . I was horrified because my mom called him and asked him to take me - of course he said yes that he would, but I was waaaaaaay too embarrased, so unfortunately, I didn't go. We spent time talking and laughing about that which broke the ice and we were fine from there. So once you guys break the ice, you'll be fine and you'll be glad that you went.
I've been to Cal - once on 4th of July and it wasn't that bad - I got there about 10 am and went right in. That won't usually be the case. Since visiting is only on Saturday and Sunday folks usually start lining up the night before  . You should check out the other CAL threads, you'll find some helpful info.
Good Luck:)

I thought I was approved due to I was approved while he was at San Quentin but the week before I was going to visit i called and the officer told i was not approved. I sent a visiting form over night that was a monday and thursday the officer called me at home to inform me i was approved. It was a very long drive for me 546 miles each way so I am glade i called first and lucky they told me anything at all about me not being approved.
I plan on going back again in October whin its cooler.

Kappasalo 08-27-2006, 08:38 PM Hello,
Well first time I'm coming by to say Hi, I was in here before getting all the info I could get on Calipatria since my husband has been so graciously invited to stay there. Of course he's innocent, well maybe not so much as truly innocent; however, he really didn't do anything to earn himself a 6 years + sentence, but well he was tricked after being treated really unfairly, and yeah, and so the road continues on and somehow, we will get him home way before that. I just wanted to say thanks for all of the info I was able to get off this forum and so I was able to surprise him with my knowledge and also a package before he could even ask for one. He's been there already 1 1/2 months now, was at Delano for about 2 months and he's miserable, of course. I'm about ready to committ suicide everynight, but well you know how that goes, ....the sun will come out tomorrow....yeah, yeah, yeah. I'll try and come back and post anything if anyone wants to know anything about us and of course to read all about the rest of you with loved ones in this most dismal sounding place. Pam (Kappasalo)
Kappasalo 08-27-2006, 08:45 PM Oh yeah, also wanted to know, has anyone heard if there are any lockdowns happening at Calipatria? I usually get letters every other day or so and phone calls every other day or each day if he is allowed to make them. I haven't heard from him since over a week ago? Maybe he got in trouble or ??? Is there any way of checking up on inmates there. Also how do you find out if they've been given a counselor yet? He still didn't have one at this place, the one at Delano really screwed him up....told him he'd be sent to one of two places and this wasn't even one of them. He's only a level one and so....well, don't know how any of this bs works yet. He wanted Fire Camp......long story.....Thanks, Pam (Kappasalo)
