Hey ya'll I was hoping you guys could help me out with some information on a couple of subjects. See the thing is that right now I am on bail and I'm probably going to take a plea bargain for 5 years, so I just wanna prepare myself for what's coming. People that have done time in canadian prisons or ontario prisons could probably answer my questions best (cause that's where I'll be going), but I'm happy to get any feedback. What I want to know is - when you go to prison you're allowed to have possesions in your cell like a playstation, TV(size?), games, music, clothes, ect. What I would like to know is an exact list of things permitted because I want to buy things ahead of time, I'd also like to know when and how long it takes to get in effect. The other thing I'd like to know is anything and everything there is to know about conjugal visits, like who and how many people are u allowed, how long it takes to get them, how often, ect. Well I know that's alot of questions but I'd really appreciate any feedback, thanxs ya'll. Oh and could you guys please PM me the answers cause I'm new here and I don't know how to check the answer to my threads, thanxs again.

mystical- Welcome to PTO and to the Canada Forum!
You mentioned you don't know how to check answers to your posts: there are various ways of finding responses to your posts but the easiest is if you go to 'User CP' at the top of the page and click on 'Edit Options'. You will see an area called 'Messaging' -make sure the Default Thread Subscription is checked for Instant Email notification-that way responses will be delivered to your email address.
Unfortunately, every prison seems to have different rules/regulations so I think you will have to wait until you find out what prison you will be sent to before you know what will be allowed.

Since your going to be serving your time federally you are allowed the following, unless you are placed in the SHU or in max secutiry facility it may vary.

13 inch tv
Playstation 1 (I dont think you are allowed PS2 but you can always call a facility and ask.)
Clothes ( I would pack a number of things for all seasons)
Jewelry under $500 ( I am pretty sure that is the dollar amount although I myself would not want all that in prison)
Discman or Walkman and CDs
Calendar

These are the things I can remember sending to my boyfriend but I know there is a lot more stuff. Your lawyer may be able to get in contact with the facility and get a more specific list. And keep in mind you must recieve ALL personal items in one package within 30 days of you arrival to the federal facility. After that you will not get them.

I hope this helps somewhat. :)

Mystical:

Also note that you can only have a certain amount (dollar wise) in your cell. So if you bring $500 worth of Jewellery (example from above) then you have to make sure that the TV, clothes (some guys order name brand and others don't but they go by the value), books, cd's, photos etc. that you have don't put you over. PS2's are not allowed because they play DVD's and you are not allowed DVD players. You can also have a stereo (gettoblaster). Also note that if you are unable to have some or all of your items shipped to you in 30 days, if you have money in your account or save your work money you are allowed to spend a certain amount a year (believe here it is $500) on items. You order them and them they ship them to you, such as a tv, stereo, cd's etc. My husband bought his TV from Sears. Hope this helps. Take care!

Also I remembered, I sent mine track pants and a hoodie with a zipper and the track pants cannot be tear aways or have zippers on them anywhere, according to CSC. However he did say he saw some guys in there that got there at the same time as him with zipper track pants as well as tear aways. And the hoodie he didn't get, it got put in his personals.

Ill post more as I remember.

Hi There
I am fairly new to this site but I can give you some insight on what to expect.
My son got into trouble this Feb 06. He was first, in a local jail for 3 months because I couldn't help with bail. Next he went to the assessment centre, Millhaven Institute (Super Max). This is where all federal inmates go to be assessed. This takes up to 90 days. For my son it was 60 days. When the assessment is ongoing you are in your cell 22 hours a day. You are let out to shower and go into the yard or make a phone call. Once the assessment is done then you are transferred to your mother pen, it being, Max, Med, or Min. This depends on a lot of things. Once in the mother pen then you are allowed the clothes, tv etc. You have to wait until they tell you what you are allowed. I have just finished sending the last parcel to my son who ended up in a Min security institution. I will be visiting him this month. Also, your phone lists have to be approved before you can make phone calls. It is a big proccess and I am sure very intimidating to say the least. I wish you well.
I will be letting the forum know how my visit goes, as I will be bringing his children also.

Just to add to what most have already said CD's I'm pretty sure have to be original and not burnt copies. I would assume it's the same for playstation games as well. Also if you have a 'ghettoblaster' it can't have detatachable speakers.
