IN 2003, my husband was in Harris County exactly 45 days. My understanding is that HC can only get paid for them for so many days before they have to count them as a placement instead of 'in holding'. But, I could be wrong. I also understand that 45 days is pretty normal.

dawna is pretty correct on the HC payment, it also depends on what facility they are going to and when they will be picked up and such

From what I have experienced with my son and TDC they are supposed to move prisoners from county to TDC within 45 days. If there isn't any room at the Inn so to speak it can take longer. Maybe it will be pretty soon and within driving distance. Good luck and God Bless!

45 days LOL sometimes that doesnt happen, HC has such a high turn around rate they cant even begin to know where to send people.

my husband was in county for almost 6mths...

once your loved one is transferred then they will go to intake and cant get visits for awhile.. (not sure how long) and also that will pretty much be the end of the phone calls..

I guess I was lucky, or they did his intake pretty quick, because he got to Gurney on Wed. and I got to visit the next weekend.

My son was sentenced on 12-17-03 I believe and he caught chain on 1-23-04. Depending on where he is going next will determine how long he will be there. Good Luck :)

My husband has been in HC since 7/11/06 and his papers were just sent 8/9/06 and according to the sheriff it can be another 2 months before he would be shipped to TDC. He did say that there is a slight possibility of being paroled directly from county. Has anybody ever heard of that? He also said depended on if TDC continues to take bodies. Also from what I'm reading is it true that if he spends 3 months in county that is all the time he would be credited? Would he get good time, or 2 for 1??
This is all new to me and what sucks is that his original charge was from 1988, and probation revocation was from 1998. This is the only charge he has. Non Agg 3rd degree felony for writing a $1500 "bad check".

I have never heard of anyone getting paroled out of county, or anything have to deal with a non agg 3rd degree felony, maybe someone else can help.

I knew it had been close to a year. Dustin is under parole review and should be voted on in December.

Not quite sure I understand. They want him to sign up to go to TDCJ? Was he given a sentence of 2 years? Not sure what PIA is. Someone will come along that knows.

Just dawned on me - PIA is Parole In Absentia.

This is just my opinion......but here it goes.

Staying in County does NOT help them to 'learn their lesson'. Yes, Harris County is nasty and crowded, but still nothing compared to TDC and the rules and restrictions that are placed on them.

My husband did 120 days in Harris County and still drank. 10 years later, he got a 3 year sentence to TDC and is now sober for 5 years. Had he not gone to TDC, he NEVER would have stopped drinking...and he knows that. The visions that TDC left in his memory are always there and every time he wants 'just one beer', all he has to do is envision the hell that he endured in TDC and boom...craving is gone.

Again, just my opinion...but let him go to TDC so that he can truly learn where he never wants to spend any more time at.

I agree with this. As bad as I hate TDCJ, my grandson has totally faced reality there and I have faith that he will never want to go back. The 7 months he was in county was horrible!!!!

PIA is common after the research Ive done but the question is who wants their loved one to spend an entire sentence or the half way mark in county. I have not been able to see my son this week due to the long lines in Harris County. what is going on? the llines are much longer then ever and I don't have the energy to wait in line for more then an hour so I just leave.

jojacks
09-21-2006, 06:22 AM
Wow, Jeannie, what is the deal with the long lines? Is it always like that?

Boo has changed since she went to the TDCJ stuff, the rules and restrictions has opened her eyes and she has been sober for almost a year.

The long Lines are endless but the wait is making me anxious. how do I get TDC to pick my son up from County so that he starts serving his time in TDC, and work towards parole? I am starting to worry! Can someone please advice me on what I need to do. Jeannie

Hey Jeannie,
It's me. Been a while. My phone is off. Are you going tomorrow to see your son? The lines have been horrible. My baby is still in there. I'll send you an email and let you know my number.

Hi my husband is in Harris County Jail to. He has been in there since 9/25/06. I guess whenever TDCJ gets room he will be going there. He is up for parole in three months, if he stays in Harris County for that long, could he get paroled out of Harris County? I also Heard that normal the first go around on a parol review they hardly approve it. I'm new at this and kinda scared. I thought about writing support letters but does that really help out anything? If anyone has any help at all, I'll listen :) Thanks everyone

Hey, yeah my husband is in Harris County waiting to go to TDC. He has been there since 9/25/06. We have no idea when he is going to be moved. He called me the other day saying he has heard that TDC is really backed up, they are 45 days behind or something like that he said. He also told me a gaurd told him they ship the guys out to TDC on Tuesdays. Hope that help some, :)

My man just arrived at Harris County about two weeks ago. He signed last Wednesday and he told me that from the day he signed for his time there is at least 45 days til TDC comes to pick him up. I am sure that is the minimum though. Keep your head up, the phone calls are really nicer than the contacts in my opinion. I hate getting all worked up for nothing with a guard breathing down your neck! lol!

oh btw, my ex who had a jist in harris county actually saw his parole interview from harris county and believe it or not he basically went to tdcj for only half of his twenty seven months the other half he spent between galv. and harris counties. after that he was paroled on a five year sentence.

Texasfem

Steph - I'm just guessing from my limited experience with Harris County - but

Could it be that he has accepted a plea bargain but hasn't signed off on the final court paperwork? Although my son was sentenced by his judge there were things that had to be worked out, etc.. He was set another court date where he just signed paperwork from the court probation officer and never went into the court room. During that time we knew where he was going but he couldn't transfer out until it was all signed off on.

Best of luck to him - my son FINALLY left 1200 Baker several weeks ago after an eight month stay!

Thanks mamajmg! He has been there since June 1 and just a few weeks ago took a plea bargain for 2 years at TDC. Its just a waiting game and its frustrating not knowing anything!!

I'm actually DREADING the day he gets transferred to TDCJ. I love the fact that I can see him every day and talk to him on the phone every day and get his letters the next day after he sends him. It's only been 2 weeks since they sentenced him to go..I'm really hoping that they take forever like they do on everything else.
