I was curious if I have a civilian record for my military conviction ?

The problem as I see it...

I was convicted of Larceny in a general court-martial. The military doesnt have misdemeanor or felony charges like civilian courts do, otherwise I would have been charged with petty larceny. Therefore, how does a larceny felony conviction carry over to a civilian record where in civilian court it would have equalled a misdemeanor offense ?

I have had a cop friend run a backgrouns NCIC check on me and came up with no record on me.

Am I to assume this is like getting convicted in a foreign country ? It wont ever show up ?

The reason I ask is Im wanting to register to vote but nobody can tell me if Im a convicted felon and whether I have lost any voting rights.

I got a Bad conduct discharge and served 8 months at Army Regional Confinement Facility, Ft. Lewis, WA in 1993

Well this is a tricky situation. I received a general courts martial for distribution, possession, use, and introduction onto a military facility of ecstacy, larceny in amount of 37,000 and 2 counts of awol. Since being out, the only time my military conviction has shown up on background checks was when I was booked into a county jail. On all job background checks it never showed up. As for voting, well I received my voters registration card a few weeks after I got my driver's license in Texas. The laws for voting rights are different for each state. In Texas as long as you are not on probation or parole, you can vote. Check with your state's attorney general's office to find out information about that one. The military conviction is on the NCIC file--I got a copy from the Texas Department of Safety--had to do finger prints to get a complete copy--without fingerprints, they will only do a computer search--you never knwo what exactly will come up with that, but with a fingerprint search, they will get all crimes that have ever been reported attached to your finger prints.
