View Full Version : Need Info on FRP Visits in Sullivan Hub (Eastern, Shawangunk, Sullivan)
WifeNicAtNite 07-09-2006, 10:42 PM My husband has requested a transfer to the Sullivan hub. Although he has recently been reclassified as "max B", I don't think that they'll send him back to Eastern (but I have my fingers crossed). That leaves Shawangunk and Sullivan.
Does anyone go on FRP visits at Eastern, Shawangunk or Sullivan? If so, how many trailers are at those specific facilites (I think Shawangunk has 4, but I'm not sure). And how often are the trailers (every 6 weeks, etc.)? Are the trailers decent?
Any info anyone can provide would be great.
Thanks!
Momma Ann 07-10-2006, 11:28 AM I bet you will get a faster response

WifeNicAtNite 07-10-2006, 05:51 PM Coxsackie is the same... back to no soap in the ladies room. Yesterday one of the microwaves was broken.
Did they move him closer to home?
brooks 07-10-2006, 10:24 PM Eastern's FRP's were very nice.6 units.Get the next date when you go out.
About 3 month intervals for weekends as I recall. It was a while ago.

Manzanita 07-11-2006, 06:29 PM Shawangunk trailers (4) are nice, and you get them every 9-12 weeks
In NY - Directive #4500-
If it is a wife visiting her husband, they must be legally married for 90 days before an application can be filed. The first application that is filed usually takes 12 to 16 weeks for processing. There are 5 steps to processing, they are signatures of approval or denial at each of the 5 levels.
The whole process can take about 4- 6 months from the date of marriage. If already married and if you are mothers, or sisters, or other family visiting, the process from start to finish can take about 3 months.
1) Correction Counselor of the Inmate
2) Correction Counselor that is the FRP (Family Reunion Program) Coordinator
3) Dep. of Security of facility
4) Superintendent of facility
5) Albany
Albany is the longest part of that process. There are two things that are looked at when approving or dening FRP. Discipline and programs. In regards to discipline, during the application process the inmate must maintain a spotless disciplinary record.
Programs like Substance Abuse and Alternatives for Violence, no matter what the convictions are must either be completed satisfactorily, or inmate must be on the waiting list.
In some cases, depending on the history of the inmate, even being on the waiting list is not enough and the inmate must complete the programs in order to qualify for FRP.
If approved, the facilities each have there own process, but either do a home visit to verify identification, or request notorized copies of photo identification, birth certificate, and marriage license. Someone will come to your home for a home inspection to see your ID (unless you live out of State)
Photo identification are neccessary for each person appyling for participation in FRP. Those that can apply to participate are wives, children, mother, father, siblings, aunts, uncles, ONLY FAMILY.
Some facilities require a picture to be taken of the visitors (not all require this to be done) during a weekday (have all ID - someone will want to look at it) and then schedule a date with the facility FRP coordinator. You will be given a list of things that are permissible to bring in and not.
***
The FRP applications DO NOT go to Albany EVERY SINGLE VISIT (Some Facilities do, such as Greenhaven) Unless he had some kind of ticket or you had some kind of problem. The Application only goes through the actual facility to be approved each time you fill out for your next FRP.
If your FRP is taken away, the inmate will have to complete his punishment and then you can reapply for an application - most likely that application will have to go to Albany to be approved.
For more specific information call and speak with FRP Coordinator at the facility in question and have him get the directive.
In Addition:
An inmate that has sucessfully participated in the FRP at one facility and is transfered to another facility that offers FRP may reapply at the new facility immediatley. An inmate who is transfered and has never participated in FRP before, must wait 30 days at the new facility before applying for FRP.
***
If other family members are going, they all have to processed, and the more family members, the longer it takes to get through the process. If one person in not approved the paperwork has to be done over. Just something to think about...If the family member's ID does not check out.
You can always add someone to the list but that will slow the process of the next FRP
- All going need to have a history of visits. If the member is from out of town they would not have to visit as much as the member that is from NY, but that depends on the facility.
***
In the protocol for FRP the Inmate has to have atleast 5 years time on their sentance to qualify for FRP, and can apply within 90 days of being incarcerated in a State Facilty, not reception.

WifeNicAtNite 07-11-2006, 10:12 PM Thanks for all of your responses. Wow... I'm still trying to digest all of this. We are soooo spoiled and used to getting our FRP visits every 6 weeks.
JenG are the Shawangunk FRP visits every 9 - 12 weeks for weekend FRP visits? Weekdays? Or does it even matter?
At Auburn, we got them every 6 week on the weekdays - I heard it was longer for weekend visits.
tonyloveschris - same question are the 3 month intervals at Sullivan for weekend visits? Do you get your dates quicker if you go during the week?
4mybabyboy - same question... are the 80 days or so for weekends, weekdays or does it matter?
Thanks again ladies! This was very useful.
4MyBabyBoy 07-12-2006, 04:29 AM I don't think it matters but our visits are Thurs-Saturday.
4MyBabyBoy 07-12-2006, 04:30 AM Sorry double post.
tonyloveschris 07-12-2006, 11:27 AM i go on saturday to mondays every 3 months... last year it was july then september 22 then dec 3rd... oh i miss my trailers at sullivan i am going to cry
Manzanita 07-12-2006, 06:08 PM JenG are the Shawangunk FRP visits every 9 - 12 weeks for weekend FRP visits? Weekdays? Or does it even matter?
yes, for FRP...
you get m-w
or th-sat
or sat-m but those are never available unless you wait 3 months.
I used to like th-sat...and take 2 days off from work and the vans were available to take me.
Manzanita 07-12-2006, 06:10 PM 6 weeks
as opposed to 9-12 weeks
as opposed to NADA....
I will take every 12 weeks. ;)
WifeNicAtNite 07-12-2006, 06:44 PM I agree with your statement... Right now I'm getting nada! :(
My husband was transferred from Auburn (where we were getting them every 6 weeks)..... to Coxsackie... where I know you are already aware that there is no FRP program.
It totally sucks.... he's being rewarded for good behavior with his classification being dropped to max B and moving closer to home.... but they took away our FRP visits and took him out of his college courses.
It's like 6 in one hand - half a dozen in the other.
We just hope the stay at Coxsackie is brief. The college courses had him pretty occupied and he had a really sweet job too. I have a bunch of mixed emotions right now.
Momma Ann 07-13-2006, 01:53 PM this same thing happened to us-my son's classification was lowered (to Max B) which good-but we lost our FRP-bad-the good news is that IN GENERAL-it seems people stay at Coxsackie 6 months to a year-and then ship out-many times to a medium. It is kind of a last test before they medium you-in many cases-this is not to say some do not stay longer at Coxsacie-but in general this is what happens-my son saw 50 guys move out while he was there-and those were just the ones he knew. Both my son and another friend spent 6-9 months at Coxsackie and then went to mediums. It is also a popular desitination for inmates being released-I saw releases all the time there-whereas I only ran into one or two the whole time at Comstock.
WifeNicAtNite 07-13-2006, 08:00 PM He has quite a bit of time left, and they don't typically send them to a medium with this much time left.
