I've had some difficult conversations with kids about their parents being incarcerated. There's a small booklet called How to Explain Jails and Prisons to Children: a Caregiver's Guide. It's done by the Oregon DOC, but it's general enough that it might help people in other states, too. Here's a link

Colorado offers a large booklet called Parenting from Prison that offers ideas to prisoners for staying connected to kids (infants to teens). This page has a form that you can fill out to have a hardcopy sent to the prisoner and also has a link to download it as a .pdf
