Hello, my husband had recently been moved from Tehachapi to Jamestown. I am not familiar about this prison. Can some one give me a few tips on visiting, how long phone calls can be, is the mail slow, and is it a good prison? (as far as a prison is concerned), etc. I have not talked to him on the phone in months. I am hoping he will be able to use the phone soon!!!

Hi there! My guy moved from Tehachapi to Jamestown in Feb.

They need to sign up for phone calls and get 15 mins at a time. It comes up as "Unknown" on the caller ID.

The mail isn't too bad. I write everyday so my guy will get a letter everyday.. but somedays he wont get any and a few days letter he will get a bunch.

Other than it being HOT I dont think its nearly as bad a Tehachapi, but its still prison so its never good enough.

I haven't been to visit yet (I'm getting there) but other gals on here have been and have great advice!

hello...my husband has been in jamestown for a few months now. starting this weekend you can be on the prison grounds at 7:00 am. they will start handing out passes at 7:45 (you line up at 7:45) and you go directly to the friendship house and wait for them to call your number. it is pretty easy. they will call 5 people at a time and then you walk down to a different building to process. it is a semi-comfortable atmosphere, not too bad (we have been to worse). i hope this helps. you can send me a message if you have any other questions!

Thanks for the info misseslolo. Can I ask how long it took you to get your 1st phone call when your man moved to Jamestown?

i am trying to remember how long it took for him to call me. i think it was a few days because he had to get situated and then sign up for the phone. they have to sign up the day before they want to use the phone. the co's can be pretty strict with the phone sign up and who is actually using the phone. it might take him a few days but eventually he will call. hang in there...it will all fall into place!

WFS - I hope you get a call soon. It took my guy two MONTHS after he was moved there before he was able to call!
