 He finished ASAT at Eastern Annex 2 MONTHS AGO and he's finally seeing the draft today! He'll be at Wallkill tonight. Why did it take so long? He's happy to be out of there and I'm happy for him, but I'm nervous because now I have to drive up and find a new place this Saturday. Anyone know how to get to Wallkill from the Thruway coming from the City? Anyone can give me tips for visiting Wallkill?

Simplest would be to take Exit 18 (New Paltz), drive west on 299 (Main Street) about two miles until you reach the intersection with Rt. 208 south, stay on that for about 8 miles and you're there. Congratulation; as prisons go Wallkill is supposed to be pretty decent and I do know it's in an absolutely beautiful location. New Paltz is a pretty good town to grab a bite to eat- it's a college town and they have a little of everything:)

Easiest way to get there from NYC is the 87 N to exit 17 go through the toll keep to ur right and follow RTE 300 continue following rte 300 until u get to RTE 208 make a right turn at the lite and about 2 miles up on ur left....be careful u dont miss ur turn because the sign is very small...when u make the turn its the first prison on the left...looks like a castle.

Just a lillte FYI on RTE 300 it does not go straight...u r going to make a left turn at some point to follow RTE 300 but u will see the sign and the arrow.....u will save about 17 miles taking exit 17 instead of 18...good luck

Thanx! I heard from someone else that I should take Exit 17 too. Have you been to Wallkill, Ms. Cuteness? Anything I need to know before I go on Saturday? Or is it pretty much the same as other places?

He's there...OK, I just got off the phone with him and I feel like crying hysterical. He's so tired and I feel so helpless. He tells me he's good, but I know that it sucks for him. There are a lot of people there that he knows, but he went from Eastern Annex (160 guys) to Wallkill (600 guys). He called me from the day room and it was so noisy there. I wish I could just take him and make it all go away...

Glad he touched down safe and sound. You'll enjoy the visits. They have two visit rooms. Also, processing moves pretty quick. They do have cells and the men have keys to the door that opens their own cell. Talk about gettin him ready to come home -- can you imagine -- him going to his own cell AND HE'S GOT THE KEY!! :)

I believe he'll enjoy his stay there -- all should be fine. :o

Wallkill isn't that bad my honey was there some time ago and is waitng to go back there. The visits are cool the co's don't bother you, you can sit wherever ur heart desires. There are two visiting rooms one in the front and one towards the back. And from my understanding after a few months there your honey will get his own room with his own key, my honey was excited when he was there he had his own room with his own key and was very content, it's more like a dormitory so don't worry your honey will be fine.

You know what? It really isn't bad at all like you all said. I visit him EVERY Saturday (except one in September 'cause you can only visit 4 times unless there are 5 full weekends in the month ie: December). BUT, as nice as it is considering, it's still not home...:(
I've become a Wallkill expert in case anyone needs info.!

My husbands classification and transfer was approved by central office. They said that he would be about 1 1/2 hours away from the city and after reading all the good comments about Wallkill I wouldn't mind if he ended up there. Right now we're thinking fishkill but still don't know.

BTW, does Wallkill participate in the FRP program? I think someone already answered that for me but I don't remember.

Honey, yes Wallkill does participate in the FRP program and often too! The visiting area is great. It's really not that bad. It's a lot better than Fishkill! I'll tell you that much! Let me know how it goes...

I'm glad you've become the Walkill expert!! I figured them and fishkill to be about the same but with a couple people giving fishkill the thumbs down, why?

Fishkill is much more rigid and strict. Wallkill is really laid back. Visiting there is so much better!
