My husband has just a bit over 9 months left too do. Now I am getting really concerned that he won't be released on his date. There have been several guys at Coffeewood that he knows of that have been held longer and their families were not notified. One guy his family came from Colorado and were there waiting for him and they came out and said he isn't getting out today. After they flew there, took time off of work, and wasted their damn money to be disappointed that their loved one is getting out like they were told. I can't afford for this to happen. I mean I am the only income we have and it isn't much so missing work and the expensive of driving from Missouri to Virginia is alot of money out of pocket. I know they can hold them up to 30 additional days by law but how can someone find out if they are going to do this ahead of time. The guy who was suppose to go to Colordao didn't find out he wasn't getting out until the night before or that morning not sure but it was too late to stop his family!
My question does anyone else know of cases like this? And does anyone have suggestions on who I should contact about making sure the date will be right before I head out there? And any advice would be greatly appreciated!
I just don't want to get out to VA and have mine and my daughters hearts broken that he is coming out that gate to us!! I think that might just put me over the edge and I am not sure how I would handle that situation!

I wouldn't make any plans until I was told he was coming out on a specific date and time by the DOC. Since you still have nine months, I would just aim for any time about 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after. Then, as it gets closer, start calling the DOC and see when they say he will actually get out. If you start stressing about this now, you will be a wreck! Just relax. He will get out and you will be there.

well, when my hubby came out of coffeewood there was no problem. He was released the day they said. Infact he was waiting for me lol. He was a transfer to MD as well. His prob officer is the one to talk to. She has to make sure his stuff is accepted in whaterver state he's going to. He will prob have to see her a couple times in VA before everything is final, but the only reason I know that they change release dates is because of problems with the home plan and they know that in advance. I don't know what happened with the CO. guy. That sucks though. But I wouldn't worry to much.

Thanks very much that gives me some hope then! Now do they get a probation officer sometime before they get out or something? Because he has just a bit over 9 months left and he doesn't have one yet nor has he spoken with one. There is just so much to make sure is right and I tend to worry way too much but thats just me:D
When your husband has his stuff set up for MD how long ahead of time did you guys know that it was all worked out and MD accepted his transfer?

well they said they were gonna start about 6 months before. They didn't of course. I think I misunderstood her. About a month or so before the paperwork was sent to MD. He had to see his VA P.O for 2 weeks before we went to the new one in MD. They said it can take 6 months to finish. I would call parole and prob in whatever county he was sentenced and start asking who he's gonna be assigned to. They prob won't know yet but I would start callin now. LOL. Also tell him to get his councelor on it as well. He has to get his home plan done and submitted.

Thanks for your help. I will get on his counselor to make sure the stuff gets done on time. I will start calling probation also. Does anyone know if Hampton is Hampton County or something else I am not sure? He was sentenced in Hampton but I don't recall ever knowing what county that was.

And so do you mean he sees the probation officer while still in Coffeewood or is he going to have to stay in VA for 2 weeks and then come here? I hope not because we have no where for him to stay that would really really suck and through a big monkey wrench into things!!!

If he's doing an interstate compact than that needs to start 6 months prior to his release. If it's done in a timely manner (by his counselor), and approved by the state he wants to live in, than he will be able to go right to that state- usually they give him 3 days to report. So he'd only have to stick around VA if his paperwork is not approved yet. Thus I would make sure that he baby steps it thru with his counselor.... some are obviously better than others and since it's so important than make sure he stays on the counselor.
As far as release date..... there is usually someone in the administrative office of the prison that is in charge of release dates. If I remember correctly they submit an inmates name approximately 4 weeks prior to his release to see if there are any detainers, warrants, or issues with home plans. If any of these things generate a red flag that is when they'll take his 30 days.
As far as how you know.... sometime before the day arrives they'll contact him to ask if he needs a bus ticket... then they'll pull the inmate out of GP a day or two before his release to go over all the "details" such as parole/probation requirements, identification, etc. So he'll have a heads up on whether that happens or not!!!
Good luck... don't let it stress you (yeah right!) but also just make sure you contact the appropriate people who can help!
