OK SO MY MAN GOT LOCKED UP FOR VIOLATING HIS PO/PROBATION LAST WKND. SO I BEEN CALLING HIS MOM TO FIND OUT ABOUT HIM, BUT SHE TELLS ME HOW "HE CAN'T CALL HER BCUZ OF HER NUMBA"? WHAT DA HECK?? SHE SAID BCUZ SHE CHANGED HER NUMBA AWHILE GO. SO HE CALLS HER AUNT TO LET HIS MOM KNOW HES DOING OK. IT JUST DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE. HIS MOMS PHONE NUMBA AREA CODE IS (347) ... IN BROOKLYN .... SO WHY CANT HE CALL HER?? SOME SAY "SHE CAN HAVE IT BLOCKED", OR SHE MIGHT NOT WANNA GIVE OUT INFO. BUT I DONT KNOW ITS WEIRD. AND THEN I HAVENT HEARD FROM HIM EITHER, I DONT KNOW IF ITS HAPPENIN TO ME ALSO. BUT I LIVE IN FL THO, AND HE USED TO CALL ME WHEN HE WAZ LOCKED UP BE4. SO CAN RIKERS KNOW HAVE CERTAIN RESTRICTIONS ON AREA CODES?? HELP!!:( :confused:

I heard they do.... they can't call certain area codes like some 917 and 646 numbers... i'm not sure about 347.

I have had issues with my man being able to call. Depending on your phone carrier service, you may have to set up a pre-paid account with correctional billing services or mci. Like right now my man's over at Lakeview shock facility and he was unable to call me. I had to set up a pre-paid account with MCI. All I can suggest is them call Rikers and ask what provider they use and call the provider directly to establish the problem. It's a pain in an a** but he is able to call now. Good luck!

Ok there used to be a thing where 347, 646, and 917 numbers weren't able to be called because the island knew they were cell phone numbers at the time, which was maybe 3 or 4 years ago when cell phones were getting hot. Now, because of companies like Cablevision with the triple play thing, vonage, etc. that have numbers only in 347, 646, 917 and the fact that a lot of cell phone numbers are 212, 718 etc. The island can't tell the difference so they released that block. I get my phone calls every day and my number is 646. My mother in law gets hers on her cell and that's 347. Don't listen to anybody that tells you different. Why can't he call you directly? Is he calling collect? That might be the problem too. Put some or have someone put some money in his account so he can call directly. 15 min calls = 92 cents and 6 min = 60 cents, last I checked. also, even if he doesn't have money in his account he gets a free 6 minute call daily (perhaps even every 5 hours, but i'm not sure).
