I am new to this site, and have read almost every thread in the Arkansas forum. I'm here to study for a funded research project for my thesis. I'm working on a degree in Criminology. However, I'm not working to become a judge or anything like that. I'm studying because of my empathy and sympathy for the criminals. When I read your stories, the remorse I feel is not for victims, even though they deserve sympathy, but for the inmates, especially the young ones. I feel that our justice system does nothing to rehabilitate offenders and that most of the blame for today's young people's actions lies at our feet.
Anyway, I'm rambling. I just wanted to say that the people in this forum seem to be the best people I've ever come across. Your open-mindedness and support for family members and eachother is breathtaking. Your resiliance shines, and I am proud to be a member here. My uncle was imprisoned for eight years for murder, and I have several pen pals in the system.
If anyone knows of anyone who would be interested in talking with me, either an inmate or a family member, I'd really appreciate it. I need several interviews for my research, and can find no better source than these forums.
Again, my hat's off to all of you. I wish we had had this when my uncle was in prison. Would have made it a lot easier for us to cope.
