Have any of you heard anything about this? I will copy a few lines from the article that appeared in the Houston Chronical.

http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/metropolitan/2012852

That may soon be changed. U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Houston, said Friday that she had just introduced an amendment to some legislation, calling for a study of good-time relief for nonviolent federal prisoners. She said increasing good time would help in dealing with crowding in the federal prison system (which is building 12 new units) and would reunite families

Jackson Lee said her next step will be to write an individual bill calling for good-time relief for people convicted of nonviolent crimes.

"I think Americans will be very sympathetic," she said.

Let us know. Thanks

Diane

Diane, this is the first I've heard about this. I pray that it is true, we need someone who believes that the federal system needs a change. Later today or tomorrow I'll check out her website and see if there's anything about this on it. If I find something I'll post it.

PS I read your post in the federal forum and posted a response. Waiting to hear from you.

I am hoping today I am able or someone else is able to get this in there hands. It seems to be attached to the HR 1829 .
I'll keep you and all updated as I hear things for sure...until I hear more...enjoy your day!

Yes the amendment is there...ck with fedcure for details, but realize this only calls for a "study" of good time

Yes, jft I realize it is only for a study but that it a first step. As it stood we had nothing before, now at least there's this. If enough people voice their support the study can turn into legislation. Here's where we can make a difference by letting our leaders know that we are behind it. So everyone needs to write their representatives and let them know you support this amendment.

I will say it again, smile!

Did we all not start out with Baby-Steps?
We have to start somewhere...and if this is an opening....mabey in a few years we will all be up and running.....or atleast mabey some of our non-violent "ex" criminals at that point!
If we say to ourselfs...its just a study...we might as well say forget it! If it will take a study to bring upon some type of proof that mabey this might just work...then I am for it! I hope many others will be as well! For those who are..I say show your support!

Hey gang, ever since I read that Sheila Jackson Lee had introduced an amendment to legislation for "good time" I have been on a mission. I thought it had been dropped but whether it has or not it shows that SOMEBODY is on our side. Since this is not just a state concern but a FEDERAL concern, every senator and represenative from every state will get a letter from me. Thats 535 letters. It might take me a while, not copying the letter but the postage. But I will do a few a week until all letters are sent. I think we all have to stick together and let our govt officials hear from us and know we stand behind it. If we dont fight for our friends and loved ones who else will? I urge everybody who has somebody in a federal prison to write the officials from their state. I just finished compiling the addresses of all senators and representives from all 50 states. I'll be more than happy to share them. My b/f was sentenced to 51 months starting this Aug 25th. The part of his offense that made it a "federal" crime is something that he says never happened. But who is going to listen and do anything about it unless you have mega bucks? Nobody. So i will do everything in my power to help him serve less time. It may never happen in the life of his sentence but maybe it will help somebody else!l

I applaud your energy and dedication. However, if you go to the legislators website, or do a search on Google about writing letters to your Senators or REpresentatives, you will see that you need to write to the one of your own district where you live and vote. When you write to other states, they forward the letter to your own district representative by your zipcode. THat one person isn't going to be happy getting 50 letters from you. Someone who knows more about this than I might suggest the most effective way to go about this. Maybe contact Sheila Jackson Lee and ask how we can help?

I realize that this is important as are baby steps to get things done...but also realize that rumors are immediately started if the info is not correct from the get go...
When I visited my hubby this weekend already hr1829 was being misinterpreted for early release for federal prisoners very soon

Hello Cellie's Wife,

I'll be more than happy to write to my legislators, senators and representatives. If you have a letter that I can send, would you PM me a copy so that I can help in this mission.
