It sounds like the name of a folk song, huh?
Well, somebody has gone crazy planting roses at Pleasant Valley! I keep meaning to ask if it's the warden or who? They are so well cared for and there are so many different kinds.
On my visit last week, I really paid attention to all the beautiful ones blooming around the prison parking lot and along the path as I walk to his yard...
I picked one rose just before I left (was that a felony LOL :D ??), and dried it. It was so gorgeous... yellow, white, pink and red all in one flower.
Anyway, just thought I'd share something positive about the place... I love me them roses!

It's the inmates in the Minimum Facility who do all the Landscaping. New Folsom and CMC have nice gardens as well. Back in the day, there was roses inside the prison yards. They took them all out of the level 4 yards a few years ago :(

Cheetoes, you're so on top of it! Thamy cousin helped take care of them. What a shame they can't have flowers in the yards. Lemme guess, they thought the inmates were smoking them??

I wonder if it is because: a) the thorny branches could make wicked weapons, b) expensive, c) just to make it as plain and antiseptic as possible. ???
I wish they had trees, but I guess that brings us back the weapon thing?

Ooops, I meant to say "in Old Folsom my cousin took care of them" LOL.. don't know what button I pushed there!
Katie, I'm sure it's because of the weapon thing... and maybe just one more thing CDC doesn't want to have to deal with... as you say, as antiseptic as possible.

Hey Q,
I haven't really paid attention to the landscaping at PVSP, but then again I haven't been there in three months! :( Hopefully I'll get to go this coming weekend, if not, I'll be able to go on the next weekend for sure!!!! :) That's awesome that you got such a pretty rose and dried it up. I would do the same, but knowing my luck they would probably take it away from me. :(
