It's America! 'The people are the voice' Right?????

Well...I have been gathering information...LOTS of information...on inmates...senators...state laws...and ect... and I had something cross my mind. Okay... we only have SO many South Carolina senators....not that many that over see the corrections systems. But, do you realize that these people are holding our loved ones from us???? Oh yes.... they DO have an effect.

So, here is my idea....the Kirkland R & E says they are thousands and thousands over crowded....the last count said they had OVER 24 K people in the system!

Many are in there for murder...for violent crimes and in all honesty that SCARES me because my boyfriend wouldn't hurt a fly. He was caught up hanging with the wrong friends and his friends were doing some kind of drug deal and he went down with them. Now he is doing 7 years and they say he has to do 85 %. That is murder to an innocent man.

Drugs are the NUMBER ONE reason that the inmates are in the system.

I would like to propose to form a group of our own...and come up with some ideas on what to do with the inmates that have drug charges (especially first time offenses) rather than throw them in jail for an un-godly amount of time.

If we gather enough info and use our resource we can send mass mail and email and phone calls to our local senators office and I'm telling you....something will happen. For every inmate there is about 10 people that would join in for them. There's about 24K inmates.

THAT'S 240,000 people!!!!!!! I know we can do something.

I know there are others out there!!! So...contact me and let me know....we can do it all online....maybe we can start a website.... i have ideas... if you have a loved one in there for a non-violent crime but he is charged VIOLENT because of the amount....don't you think that's WRONG?

They denied his parole recently after telling him he was going home and had 100% of his short way home and sent him to the walls Unit where they release prisoner's to go home, then denied him and sent him back to Sydney. He thinks there is a mix up. I think you are right and I've even contacted the news media in Sydney, Texas online. The more people who get behind you, the more they will listen to you.

Hi
I hear ya! :yay:I just wrote a letter to the governor of Arizona! Tryed to upload it on pto but it didn't go. I just wrote it like 3 days ago! My husband is in prison wasn,t for drugs but this is his first offence. I wrote the governor a letter before he was sentenced. and she was very nice about it but couldnt do anything. So I hope so will at least read it 65% instead of the 85%. Well I'll try and keep up with you on your ideas keep me informed I'll try anything to get this to the american vote. Take Care Ginger

my husband is in for his first time on drug charges and he has to do 51% of
6years, he took a plea, he was facing 25yrs. i think it has to do with the
state you are in and the judge and how close with the attorney is with
the judge, because our attorney put his hearing off until what he called the
right judge was in court.i am not really sure if any of this is the way it is,
cause this is the first time i have ever had to deal with such!!!!!!!

Yeah, my husband was a drug offender. It was his 1st crime ever. He had never been arrested for anything else. He never was in trouble in he was younger. He was sentenced to 7 yrs that's becuz they wanted to give him 10 yrs but we paid a fine of $3,500 to reduce it 3 yrs. The judge said he does no more than 7 yrs and no less than 2 yrs. Now why the hell would the TDCJ say that his 1st parole elib. is 2011?!?!?!?!?!?! Yeah I hear you have to do more than half your time but that's wrong. He was turned down for shock probation and now I'm just going crazy.

7 yrs for 2 charges of 1-4 grams DFZ

I'll be doing time with him!!!

God Bless Rebekah

If you think state sentences are draconian, take a look at the federal system. Minimum sentencing, usually 10 years, with absolutely NO parole. HR3072 (to re-instutute federal parole and increase "good-time" credit) has been floundering in Congress in various reincarnations for years and years, but the Repub. controlled House Judic. Committee wont even let it come up for a vote. The politicians know the facts, but play the public by trying to look tough on drugs. Take a look at November Coalition's petition if you are interested in getting involved. But dont hold your breath.......

Anything I can do, any petition that I can sign, I am all for it. My fiance was hit with a mandatory minimum on a federal drug charge on a first time offense, so I down for helping with anything that could possibly get him home to us early.

My boyfriend has not been sentenced yet but we aldready know he is probably going to have to do 7- 10 I try not to think about it much. I will be glad to do whatever I can to help just let me know. I have also been writing letters to the govenor and to the congressman and senators from our area. I also wrote a letter to the judge that is going to be doing the sentencing. O I forgot to tell you that my boyfriend was charged with a federal charge of conspiracy (drugs) It really amazes me that you can go to state prison for 8-11 months for selling crack but you can go to federal prison for 20 to life for conspiring to sell!!!! I feel like there is something terrible wrong with that picture. I know a man that was high and killed his best friend and he only served 26 months. And he is back on the streets robbing people and he even robbed a store at gunpoint. So with that I think everyone would agree with me that our lawmakers have it all screwed up!!!!
